Soon, the dreaded holiday that no one likes will be here. A day set aside for those who identify as “singles” to lament their romantic emptiness. For those who are already taken, the anticipation of hearing “Will you be my valentine?” followed by a text reading “Why do I need to ask you to be my valentine if we are dating?” or “I didn’t think we were that serious to do Valentine’s Day together” can be excruciating. Just between us, let’s admit that this holiday is terrible. Hopeless romantics, rejoice: I have some suggestions to help you save Valentine’s Day!
After learning about Galentine’s Day, I realized that any two people in your life can share a Valentine’s Day. Let’s make Valentine’s Day into a day where we express our affection for everyone in our lives, whether or not they are romantic partners. We’ve compiled four ways to celebrate Galentine’s Day and remind ourselves that we all deserve to be loved on February 14.
Telling your gals and best friends how much you care about them is one of my favorite ways to display your affection. Playfully expressing your affection for friends can be accomplished through the exchange of handwritten notes or humorous love poems. Come up with some hilarious love poems and read them aloud to your pals to have a good time. Making someone laugh is one of the best ways to show your loved ones how much you care about them, and life’s greatest gift.
Getting together with pals for a baking session is yet another option. To spend quality time with friends, try your hand at baking some cookies or making some heart-shaped pizzas. Making cookies and watching a movie all with my pals is one of my favorite memories. Make cookie pizzas in the shape of a heart for your Valentine’s Day dessert this year. Create pink cookies with buttercream frosting and humorous messages, like conversation heart candies.
Then, while you and your pals snack on some sweets, put on your go-to cheesy romantic comedy. Here are a few of my favorite romantic films that won’t make you feel like the only person in the world who is currently unattached. Despite the fact that the films center on a romantic relationship between best friends. I Love You, Man, Bridesmaids, and Clueless are some of my favorite feel-good movies to watch on Valentine’s Day. Choose one of these films to watch together with your gal pals.
There is more to love than romantic partnerships. All humans seek love and acceptance as their life’s ultimate purpose, yet this need not be conditional on romantic partnerships. Genuine love is often best shown by those closest to you, such as friends and family. In the end, you’re the only one who can give you the kind of love from a fairy tale. No other person in your life can love you as much as you love yourself. On February 14, give these people and yourself lots of valentines because you deserve it.
Everyone deserves to be loved, irrespective of your status
