Scott Simon, a radio host for NPR, spent much of the last week tweeting about his ailing mother’s time in a hospital. He gained attention and support for his heartfelt tweets thanking nurses and as his mother’s health worsened.
In 2008, Simon did an extended interview with his mother on NPR.

I lost my father a few weeks before Mr. Simon’s mother. Reading his sweet tweets reminds me of theast time dad spoke to me, his last days in the hospital, and the nights I spent holding his hand, wishing we could talk one more time.
Every single one of them left a lump in my throat. How I miss my mum, and there is no place better than being with your mum. I have to admit, that I was a mommie’s boy and big boys do cry.
The last few tweets were so cathartic I teared up. Just one more reason why I am so happy to have my mother in my life
