Five minutes equals making the deal happen. And altering the course of your life.
—
People, including me, usually stop working and fake it 5 minutes before quitting time.
This particular Friday at 5 minutes to 5:00 PM, in 1990, was different.
“I’m going to make one more call to this new car dealer,” I thought.
“Metro Detroit Lincoln Mercury, George speaking – May I help you”
I looked down at the major newspaper, one of my lead sources, and read the top of the newspaper ad: the owner’s name, George, came before the name of the dealership.
“Wow, I thought. I’ve got the owner on the phone–the decision maker–no gatekeeper here.”
“Sir,” I said, “I want to help you sell more Lincolns and Mercurys”.
“Good. I’ve got a bunch of ‘em–how are you going to help me sell these cars?” said George.
“I’m John and I’m with WXYT, AM 1270, the home of Big Name Air Personality. I think that Big Name’s demographics line up with the demographics of people who buy Lincolns and Mercurys”.
“I do too.” He said. I was going to call your station on Monday. You just saved me some time. I’m staying here late tonight. Can you come over now so we can put this deal together?”
I called my wife and told her that I would be late.
I came back home that night with a 6 month deal that lasted 10 years.
5 minutes equals making the deal happen.

Do an internet search for the Don’t Quit poem.
Read it.
But, if you’re tired or have other things to do…
