Seven years ago, I was going through a difficult phase in my life. I was struggling financially, my ex-girlfriend had broken up with me, and I didn’t know what I wanted to do in life.
I was a twenty-five-year-old who was utterly lost.
None of my past relationships had lasted more than a year, so I developed a feeling that I was unlovable and that something was seriously wrong with me.
I could hardly remember anything good about my life at the time.
Things got even worse when the college I applied for rejected my application.
In the meantime, my friends were living their best lives. I envied them and could only imagine myself ever being happy again.
The realization to focus on myself
After months of sorrow and pain, I knew I had to do something about it. I couldn’t just waste away my twenties doing nothing. The first thing that came to mind was focusing on my well-being.
The first step was to get into good physical and mental shape.
I began reading books, meditating, journaling, and running every day. I’m not a gym person; I prefer doing things outside in the open. Running was my escape from the pain and a means of rebuilding myself.
Meditation and reading helped a lot.
My mental strength began growing. I was no longer bothered by what people thought about me. If nobody loved me, I would love myself. That was my mindset.
I continued it for over a year.
Focusing on self-love and self-care was my top priority, which led to new opportunities.
COVID was disastrous to the world, but for me, it was the best time to learn and re-grow myself. I began writing online, and as a result, my financial situation changed. I worked online with multiple clients, started a blog, and created content for them. I loved every part of my job.
Kids, this is how I met your mother.
The most crucial moment of my life (post-COVID) was meeting the girl of my dreams. It was as if God wanted me to love myself first so that He could send me someone who would love me as much (or even more).
I met her at a mutual friend’s wedding. She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen.
Since I was in a phase where I was focused on myself, I didn’t go after her immediately. I kept my distance and still wasn’t convinced it would be right to “make a move.”
I waited, but there was something special about her that I couldn’t let go of. I even told my friend who was getting married that she was the girl of my dreams, and I would marry her someday.
He laughed…not knowing how serious I was.
I finally made the move and talked to her. It wasn’t easy. Things took time, but eventually, we went out after a few weeks of that wedding.
Almost four years later, I am marrying her this November.
Take notes if you want to attract your love the way I did
I learned crucial lessons from my love story:
The more you chase and seek validation, the further your desires will take you. The most effective way to attract what you want, especially in relationships, is to focus on yourself.
Self-love is key to opening the doors to a great relationship.
Things begin to come your way once you focus on yourself enough that you don’t need external validation. Looking outward without knowing yourself leads to unaligned connections.
Wholeness doesn’t come from another person — it comes from within.
Sometimes, detachment is the first step toward clarity and change. I thought I was unlovable, but then I detached from needing love altogether. That’s when things took a turn.
Remember, when you become someone you’re proud of, you attract people who match that energy. The right person is attracted to the version of you that’s aligned with your true self, not your performative self.
Before I met my dream girl, I met myself. That made all the difference.
