00:01
hey kids nice to see you again
00:03
so today i’m going to show you how to
00:05
make biscuits just a pretty simple
00:07
recipe
00:08
to encourage you to go ahead and try it
00:10
for yourself i did have some people ask
00:12
how to make biscuits so i thought i’d go
00:13
ahead and
00:14
crank out that video for you um i used
00:17
to make biscuits for my kids and we kind
00:18
of made it a special day that we’re
00:21
maybe once a month just saying okay
00:23
making biscuits and kind of
00:24
hyped it up a little bit to make it into
00:26
a kind of a special thing so i would
00:28
encourage you to do that as well
00:30
um but first i have a downtip for you so
00:33
a piece of bacon and a biscuit walk into
00:36
a bar
00:37
and the bartender says sorry we don’t
00:39
serve breakfast here
00:41
ah anyway let’s get started
00:44
okay so what you start with with this
00:46
this doesn’t take very long so you go
00:48
ahead and preheat your oven
00:50
the oven um should be at 450 degrees
00:53
fahrenheit okay 450 degrees fahrenheit
00:56
there are some questions on my uh
00:58
pumpkin pie video about that
01:00
it’s 450 degrees fahrenheit okay uh so
01:03
first we want to start with two cups of
01:05
flour okay and i just went ahead and
01:07
dumped these in already so two cups of
01:08
flour
01:10
one tablespoon baking powder not baking
01:13
soda baking powder okay
01:15
all right two teaspoons of sugar
01:20
okay so we’re mixing all the dry
01:22
ingredients together first
01:24
one half teaspoon cream of tartar
01:28
okay and one quarter teaspoon of salt
01:33
okay and whenever you mix your your dry
01:36
ingredients you want to
01:38
you want to mix those all together right
01:40
so that there’s not clumps right because
01:42
we’re going to add butter to this
01:44
uh and you want to make sure
01:46
everything’s all the dry ingredients are
01:48
mixed
01:49
before you add the butter so that you
01:50
don’t get a big chunk of salt
01:52
stuck to the stuck to the butter right
01:54
it’s already all mixed in
01:55
so okay so we do that and then i have
02:00
and i this is what i use for my tool um
02:02
it works really well you can just use a
02:04
fork too that works fine
02:06
um and then uh you want to get your
02:09
butter
02:09
um i got a half a cup of butter
02:12
and i soften this you don’t want to
02:14
soften it too much you don’t want it to
02:15
be
02:16
runny but you want it to be soft and so
02:18
i put it in my microwave
02:20
for like 10 seconds right just to get it
02:22
soft
02:23
and then uh that just makes it easier to
02:26
work with okay
02:30
and then it’ll take probably two or
02:31
three minutes of mixing this i’m going
02:34
to spare you of that so
02:36
i’m just going to go ahead and start
02:38
mixing this and then i’ll come back
02:41
come back to you and kind of like when i
02:43
was making the
02:44
the crust on the pumpkin pie you want to
02:48
um this one you want it to be coarse
02:50
crumbs is what they call it so you just
02:52
start mixing it
02:53
and it ends up being coarse crumbs
02:56
basically it’s just trying to tell you
02:57
you just want to get it
02:58
mixed up really good before you add the
03:01
milk
03:01
okay so i’m just going to go ahead and
03:03
do that and i’ll come back to you
03:06
okay so that’s what coarse crumbs look
03:08
like okay
03:09
that’s what it looks like up close okay
03:13
so now
03:17
now that we got that all nice and mixed
03:19
up um
03:20
you’re gonna end up using your hands
03:22
with this right so
03:24
uh we just go ahead and do that i can go
03:26
ahead and
03:28
scrape off the last little bit there
03:31
that’s good now i’m going to add the
03:33
milk and when i add the milk
03:36
you can mix this with whatever you want
03:39
whatever
03:40
you’d like to do i normally just get my
03:42
my fingers
03:45
in it and just kind of mix it up that
03:46
way and knead it
03:48
um but you know just to get it close you
03:51
want to do this
03:52
right just kind of mix it with whatever
03:58
okay
04:00
it’s a little bit runny so i’m just
04:02
going to go ahead and add a little bit
04:04
a little bit more flour
04:09
and then i’m going to put the flour on
04:11
my on my cutting board here too
04:13
and then i’m just gonna pull this out of
04:15
here and we’ll put it on there and
04:18
roll it out you don’t even really need
04:20
to roll it out you can just pat it out
04:22
you just want it to be about
04:24
uh about a half an inch thick okay and
04:27
if you don’t have a rolling pin that’s
04:29
fine you don’t need it
04:32
so okay so
04:37
i’m going to pull this out of here and
04:39
i’m probably going to move the camera
04:40
closer so you can see everything
04:42
kind of from uh shooting down at it so
04:45
okay okay so now we’re just going to go
04:49
ahead and
04:50
uh you know i’ve added a little bit more
04:53
flour to it
04:54
and then you just want to put your let’s
04:56
go ahead
04:58
move this around i’m gonna go ahead and
05:00
put this put some flour on my cutting
05:02
board here
05:05
okay and i can dump it out
05:09
see how it’s all kind of coming together
05:10
there
05:12
okay get the last little bit out of here
05:18
okay and then knead it a little bit
05:20
right just to kind of get it to
05:22
to work together let me get that out of
05:24
the way
05:26
okay and then now
05:29
we’re gonna go ahead and roll it out
05:31
since i have a rolling pin again you can
05:33
just
05:33
mush this out it’s not you’re not gonna
05:35
need a rolling pin for this but since i
05:38
have it i’m going to use it
05:43
give myself a little more room
05:47
like i said about a half an inch you can
05:49
make these however
05:51
however thick you want but i think it’s
05:53
supposed to be eight to ten
05:54
biscuits is what this is gonna make so
05:57
there i just heard my oven
05:59
just warmed up okay so
06:02
and you got a few options here um this
06:05
is a nice
06:06
uh biscuit cutter that i picked up you
06:08
can use that
06:09
right so that works good
06:14
okay my dogs are barking outside
06:19
before i had this nice cutter i used to
06:21
just use a glass like this the only
06:23
problem is the air gets trapped in it so
06:25
when you do it you have to kind of let
06:26
the air out
06:28
while you’re doing it again not a big
06:30
deal but you can do that
06:32
you can also around valentine’s day we
06:34
just passed valentine’s day but you can
06:36
use
06:37
this uh for your for your cutout as well
06:40
or whatever shape you like so i’m just
06:43
gonna
06:44
stick with these okay
06:48
these round ones and um you know when my
06:52
kids were growing up and we did this
06:54
i would make make this and i’d you know
06:56
i’d make the nice biscuits
06:58
um here let me move that over so you can
07:00
see it
07:01
um i’d make the nice biscuits and then
07:03
you know i’d always have something left
07:05
left over and i’d go like this and just
07:06
go like that and wouldn’t really have
07:08
enough for a biscuit so i’d just make
07:09
something like
07:11
you know an odd shaped one and that’s
07:13
the one that everybody
07:15
fought over uh which was kind of kind of
07:18
strange so then we stopped making
07:20
so many nice ones and we started making
07:22
like
07:23
odd ones on purpose so i just take this
07:27
and
07:27
kind of makes it a little bit more like
07:29
a scone right where you’re just kind of
07:31
mashing it however you want add some
07:34
character to it
07:36
okay same thing here
07:39
so yeah it looks like it’s gonna make
07:40
about nine or ten
07:42
depending on the size i make these last
07:44
few
07:49
okay and these are great with uh you
07:51
know with honey
07:53
with jelly uh or you know if you’re
07:56
gonna make some gravy
07:57
biscuits and gravy is awesome too so
08:01
all right so that’s it we’re going to go
08:02
throw it in the oven
08:04
for uh it says 10 to 12 minutes and
08:07
really 11 minutes is
08:09
it’s just about perfect so
08:13
okay so i just put them in the oven
08:18
now uh we’ll wait till we can pull them
08:20
out
08:25
okay they look like they’re done so
08:27
let’s see i’m gonna go ahead and pull
08:29
them out here
08:30
let’s see what we got yes
08:34
looking good
08:37
all right so we just pulled them out of
08:39
the oven and this is
08:40
a fun part here they’re kind of hot
08:42
though so hopefully i won’t
08:45
burn myself here but
08:49
you can can you see the steam coming out
08:50
of there oh
08:52
love that okay so there you go
08:55
that’s all there is to it to making
08:56
biscuits and uh they always that recipe
08:58
always comes out well in my opinion
09:01
uh so hopefully you know it gives you
09:03
the confidence to try this for yourself
09:05
if you’ve never made biscuits and
09:07
like i said they’re great with honey
09:08
they’re great with jam they’re great
09:10
with
09:10
uh you know if you have a white sauce or
09:13
a gravy
09:14
to go over them with eggs uh excellent
09:17
breakfast so
09:18
um and maybe you can make it fun you
09:20
know make it biscuit day that you do
09:23
once a month and something for your
09:25
family to look forward to so
09:27
anyway thanks for watching i hope this
09:28
was helpful for you and god bless you
