When she cheated on me I had questions.
So many questions.
How do you sleep next to someone every night, love on them, build a life with them and still be doing what she was doing behind my back?
I genuinely could not understand it.
So I did what most people do after betrayal.
I kept asking.
The 2 Months I Wasted Looking for Answers
For two months I kept going back to her with questions.
How long. Who. Why.
And every answer she gave me just opened more doors I didn’t want to walk through.
New details. New images. New questions I hadn’t even thought to ask before.
I thought getting the full picture would help me make sense of it.
It didn’t.
It just gave me more to think about at 2am when I was supposed to be sleeping.
The Day I Finally Stopped
There wasn’t a dramatic moment.
I just remember sitting there one day realizing this isn’t helping me.
Every conversation with her about it left me feeling worse than before it started. Every answer created a new loop in my head I couldn’t get out of.
And I asked myself honestlywhat am I actually looking for here?
Peace.
That’s it. That’s all I wanted.
And I finally understood that she couldn’t give me that.
No answer she could give me was ever going to give me peace.
The only way I was going to feel okay again was if I gave that to myself.
What Letting Go Actually Means
I want to be clear about something because I think people misunderstand this.
Letting go doesn’t mean suppressing everything.
It doesn’t mean pretending it didn’t happen. Putting it on the back burner. Forcing yourself to be okay before you actually are.
For me letting go meant sitting with all of it first.
The things I knew she did.
The things I suspected but couldn’t prove.
The things I would probably never know the full truth about.
I sat with all of it. I felt all of it. The anger. The embarrassment. The grief of losing someone I genuinely loved.
And then slowly I accepted it.
Not because I understood it.
But because I stopped needing to.
The Difference Between Understanding and Accepting
This is the part nobody talks about.
Most people think closure means finally understanding why someone hurt them.
If I could just understand why she did it I could move on.
But that’s not how it works.
Because even if she gave me a perfect explanation every detail, every reason, every honest answer the pain would still be there.
Understanding doesn’t heal you.
Acceptance does.
And acceptance doesn’t require their explanation.
It just requires you to sit with what happened, feel it fully, and decide that your peace matters more than their answers.
That’s the closure nobody gives you.
That’s the closure only you can give yourself.
What Happened After
Two months of questions got me nowhere.
One decision to stop asking and start accepting changed everything.
The writing that came out of that period became some of the most connected work I’ve ever published. Because I stopped running from the pain and started feeling it honestly.
And eventually not overnight, not quickly I felt okay again.
Not because I got the answers I wanted.
Because I stopped needing them.
If You’re in the Middle of This Right Now
Stop asking why.
Not because you don’t deserve answers.
But because the answers won’t give you what you’re actually looking for.
What you’re looking for is peace.
And that only comes from one place.
Sit with what happened. Feel it fully. Accept what you know and what you’ll never know.
Then let it go.
Not for them.
For yourself.
Because you’re not going to get closure from their mouth.
You’re going to give it to yourself.
