Is This What I Voted For?

First they came for Mexican “rapists and drug dealers” who were not that country’s best – And I didn’t speak out because I am a good person who is not from Mexico.

Then they came for all Central and South American immigrants who were recently released from their native countries’ “jails and insane asylums” – And I didn’t speak out because I am not insane or a criminal and I am not from Central or South America.

Then they came for Muslim American citizens – And I didn’t speak out because I am a Christian.

Then they came for immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries – And I didn’t speak out because I think many Muslims are terrorists anyway.

Then they came for immigrants from the “shithole” countries like those in Africa – And I didn’t speak out because I think all countries beside the United States are shithole countries because we are the best and most exceptional since we were blessed by God with “manifest destiny” to take over the entire continent, even Canada and Greenland.

Then they came for women’s reproductive rights – And I didn’t speak out because I don’t have a vagina, and I feel abortion is murder.

Then they came for wokeness and diversity, equity, and inclusion – And I didn’t speak out because I am white and this wokeness and DEI stuff puts me at a disadvantage, and besides, it’s all communist propaganda.

Then they came for liberal colleges and law firms who practice wokeness and DEI – And I didn’t speak out because I think colleges and law firms like these indoctrinate students and clients to their liberal agendas.

Then they came for transgender rights to bodily autonomy and for transgender athletes – And I didn’t speak out because I believe that there are only two natural sexes (male and female) and two natural gender expressions (masculine and feminine), and I don’t want this gender ideology forced down my throat, and besides, the thought of transitioning my body seems so icky.

Then they cut off international aid, even to starving children and people with life-threatening illnesses, and they threatened to cut off military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine even as Russia intensifies its offensive – And I didn’t speak out because we have so many needs here at home in the United States and we shouldn’t be wasting our resources overseas.

Then they said they would make the Gaza Strip into a Mediterranean resort and part of the United States after they deported all the Palestinians — And I didn’t speak out because I’m always in search of a new vacation destination and I don’t care about the Palestinians.

Then they came for drilling ever more oil and natural gas with their “Drill Baby Drill,” while arguing that human-made “climate change is a hoax” – And I didn’t speak out because I want low energy prices, and I believe them when they claim that windmills cause cancer and kill lots of birds. Besides, those solar panels are really ugly.

Then they came for deadly gang members from Venezuela and deported them under the cover of night, even against court orders, to a gruesome prison in El Salvador, even though some were deported by “administrative errors” and without due process under constitutional mandate – And I didn’t speak out because I don’t want these scum around me and my family even though some of them might be innocent, since it is worth taking that risk.

Then they called for placing tariffs on all other countries and said this will bring back manufacturing to the United States and help to pay down our debt – And I said, well, let’s see how this turns out.

Then they came to stop vaccines because they cause autism – And I didn’t speak out because, well, I don’t know what’s true.

Now they are threatening to reduce or cut Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and food assistance programs – And I say, well, hmmm?

Now they say they are going to deport U.S. citizens to the gruesome prison in El Salvador even though they already admitted that they have made “administrative errors” without due process under constitutional mandate – And I say, help!, and who will speak out for me as someone who might be taken and deported by “administrative error” to a gruesome prison possibly for life?

Is this really what I voted for? Why are egg prices still so high and inflation has only gone up?
