It doesn’t seem like it at times. This world we live in sure seems static. Structured. Like someone’s already come along and made it a certain way and that all we can do is fit into it as best we can.
I’m in France right now. I don’t speak but a few words of the language (and even those words, I get mixed up). I don’t understand the street signs, the culture, or the ‘way of doing things’. I’m feeling a bit swept away by the current right now and it’s only day 2 of about 60.
So in writing this post for you, I’m reminding myself as well, that no matter how little control we think we have over our environment, we need to know that each of our unique, individual worlds are malleable.
Steve Jobs said it best back in 1995 (and universal truths don’t expire):
“The minute you understand that you can poke life — you can push in, and something will pop out the other side. You can change it. You can mold it. That’s, maybe, the most important thing.” –Steve Jobs
We live in a creative universe. How dare we think, for one minute, that things are just the way they are and all we can do is try not to make waves. To be small. To deny our creative capacities.
We’re born to make waves. Big, beautiful, life-affirming waves.
We’re here to be instruments through which life is pushed forward. To choose, feel, fall, get up, heal, and make anew.
We’re creators, born before a big blank canvas with endless paint and a big-ass brush. We can believe it—and live it—or not.
The only choice we have, in every moment, is to let what wants to express through us freely out onto the canvas, or to choke it off through our limited thinking.
I say we go nuts. I say we get something down on that canvas ASAP. Why wait?
If you’re waiting for permission, well—permission is granted. Always has been. Can you accept it? Can you give yourself permission to f*king rock this thing?
Ce que vous voulez.
