Dear Republicans:
You know how this ends. Total disaster. You have joined hands with a person who is going to destroy your party and maybe the country itself. You might think you are at the end but you are at the beginning of this.
Let me explain.
Your party, based upon the primary votes this summer, is officially owned and run by the 45th president now. The fact that he can handpick terrible, unqualified, extremist candidates in multiple states and can help them crush establishment candidates says it all.
I personally don’t care what happens. I am an “Independent”. I don’t even like political parties. I vote by the issues. And rarely have I agreed with anything the GOP stands ever in my lifetime. The racism and sexism in the party are always treated much too lightly for me.
Homophobia and transphobia are likewise dirty political tools. Your policy on the rights and freedom of women and immigration policy is inhumane and immoral. But carry on. It is your party, not mine.
But now, you have formed an alliance with a racist, sexist, dishonest, shady, “grifter” of a failed businessman, so you are headed for total destruction.
What am I talking about?
I am talking about how things always end and have ended when #45 is in charge of something. Total failure. The destruction of the lives of individual people. The list is long of what #45 has done in his life. You are next.
Item: Atlantic City
The 45th president had his name on four casinos in Atlantic City. He couldn’t even make one of them work, except to stuff his pockets with cash and then leave town. He filed for bankruptcy three times while in that very poor city.
Over a 14-year period, his casinos had the worst employment record according to Temple University law professor Jonathan Lipson. His casinos lost more jobs than all the other competing casinos. Other casinos made in two weeks what it took his casinos to make in eight months.
The 45th president then did what he has always done: filed bankruptcy after bankruptcy and ruined people’s lives, and refused to pay his bills. In 2016, when the Taj Mahal shut down, 3,000 workers were instantly laid off.
Thomas Hobbs, of the Guardian, described the aftermath of the Taj Mahal as follows:
“When photographer Brian Rose arrived in the city in 2016, the bankrupt Taj was practically empty. His images of the building’s exterior look eerily quiet, as if all its workers had left in a sudden hurry, with what was once a thriving casino now unkempt and surrounded by damaged sand dunes. He photographed a family of stray cats nesting in a spot where gamblers might once have collapsed in a drunken stupor.”
When the Taj Mahal casino was finally blown to smithereens in 2021, it was like a party in town. Finally, the thing that represented the ruined lives of so many locals was gone. Contractors didn’t get paid and lost their businesses.
This is what awaits you if you don’t act now. And you can act to stop it if you want. Just abandon these handpicked candidates and let them rot in the wind.
People who are only going to be elected because they are acolytes of #45’s dishonest assertion that the election was stolen. Conspiracy theorists. QAnon folks. Most of them are unqualified for office and it is time for your party to acknowledge this.
And then, there is one more thing: make sure #45 is not your nominee in 2024. If he is, good luck. He might win. But one thing is for sure — you will be no more, no matter what. And maybe the country too.
I don’t expect you to heed my words. But hey, my uncle was a Republican. He was a pretty decent man. I doubt your party would have done this when he was a member. But here we are.
Peace.
