Some say life is a bitch. Others say life is short. Some say life is a game and should be played like a sport.
Some say life is easy. Other’s say life is hard.
Life is neither easy, nor hard. It just… is.
In other words, when we attempt to define life, that’s when the trouble starts. The trouble starts because each and every event we experience, we attempt to put it in a category and give it a label, in order to control the understanding of each event.
Here, let’s prove it. Have you ever met someone and you just immediately connect with them. You laugh together, you start spending more time together and you always have an amazing time. This goes on for months. Soon after, one of you wants to define the relationship, and give it a title.
But, why?
What is that need to define or label the time your spending together?
Is it social pressure to define your relationships? Is it out of fear of losing this relationship, so you want to label it in order to claim it and attach the set of rules and boundaries that go with the label you give it?
Are you starting to get the picture?
The more boundaries, guidelines, rules and boxes we try to put life into, the less we experience life for what it truly is; Its randomness, its unpredictability, its lessons, its messages, and its authentic beauty.
Life is not to be defined, nor put into a box.
That’s the point!
Life is only to be experienced, not quantified and catalogued. It’s to be experienced to the fullest. The only way to begin experiencing life at that level is to slowly begin releasing the urge to control it. Let go of the need to label and define every event and relationship. Be silent, listen and let those events and relationships actually speak to you and tell you what they are.
We know the world will continue to throw titles and labels on you, your relationships and everything else around you, but that’s for their control. You have the choice and ability to see through and past those titles and labels. You don’t have to allow your life experience to be governed and narrated by labels and titles that some governing power created.
The less you try to define life, the more it reveals itself to you. This statement is not meant to be cryptic or esoteric, but it truly is the way.
Practice how to be silent and let life whisper its secrets into the ears of your mind and allow your heart to define.
