Clothes aren’t just clothes.
They show the world who you are, the real you. When you wear something that feels like you, do you know that your nervous system relaxes, your posture softens, and you stop acting like someone you aren’t?
Getting up every morning and trying to find something to wear that’s comfortable but also shows the world what you want it to see is hard.
But what if what you want the world to see is not really you?
The right clothes don’t change who you are; they help you remember who you are.
Confidence in yourself doesn’t come from the outfit you’re wearing. It comes from the outfit that agrees with your personality.
True, there are times when you have to wear what you’re expected to wear: uniforms, khakis and a certain shirt, black pants, or something that is required by your job.
But, when you can, you need to wear the clothes that make you feel like yourself.
Is it a favorite pair of old jeans? Work boots, black t-shirts, vintage clothes, a favorite baseball cap or a cowboy hat, cowboy boots, flannel shirts, “girly” clothes or sweats?
When you’re wearing something that feels like you, you spend less energy wondering how you look and more energy living your own life.
Confidence often isn’t about looking better or looking a certain way.
It’s about feeling comfortable enough to stop thinking about yourself (and your clothes) every five minutes.
Wear what helps you feel like the person you already are.
Why don’t you try:
Picking out an outfit that makes you relax or wearing the thing that you reach for on instinct.
Not the one that makes you adjust it every five minutes. Don’t put on something that you think you “should” wear.
If you wear the clothes that fit you, you’ll notice how much easier the day feels when your clothes support you rather than direct you.
It’s about feeling comfortable enough to stop thinking about yourself every five minutes.
The clothes that make you feel like yourself can become a quiet form of support.
Not because they’re perfect.
Because they let you relax into your own skin.
