You wake up one morning and something feels different. Your legs feel lighter. The air seems better. You catch yourself smiling for no reason. You call your friend and say, “I think she might be the one.” Your friend laughs and says you look like you are floating. And you feel that too.
This is the part most people point to and call love. I believed the same thing. I was wrong.
What comes after the feeling is what matters.
The feeling begins to fade, not because something is broken, but because this is how love works. Slowly, you start noticing the small things. The way she reacts when she is surprised. What she orders when she is tired. The face she makes when she is trying not to laugh. You begin to wonder what she is thinking. You ask yourself whether you are the right person for her.
This is the part nobody warns you about. This is the part where many people walk away. But this is also the place where love begins to become real.
You stay. You argue. You make up. You learn how to build a life together. You move in together and discover how expensive it is to share a home. You learn each other’s habits, the ones you love and the ones testing your patience. You stay anyway.
Then one day, she tells you she is pregnant. Fear, joy, and excitement arrive all at once. You sit together and think of names. You watch a whole new life grow out of the love you built together. First steps. First words. First heartbreak. First car. And then, one day, they leave. The house becomes quiet again.
You look across the room at her, and the feeling from the beginning returns. But now it is different. Quieter. Warmer. More certain. You are not floating anymore. You are grounded. And grounded feels better than floating ever did.
This is love. Not the rush at the start. Not the butterflies. Love is the full picture. The hard parts, the quiet parts, the growing parts, all of it together. And when you look back, you know you would live it all again.
