Why I ditched the creation of resolutions.
I’m not starting off the New Year by spending time creating resolutions this year. I have participated in the intention of setting resolutions, I discovered that I was living for the start of a New Year. While I reflected, this shook me to my core. After that, I asked myself: why am I waiting for the New Year to do the things that I know I need/should/want to do? Shortly after my mental barrage, a friend challenged “Why are YOU waiting until January 1st to do those things?” Her words hit me like a gust of cold wind. A refreshing question. I started to challenge the notion of waiting until the new year to make changes. Resolutions are all about choices. I urge you; If you’re not who you want to be, DO something today that your future self will thank you for.
Some of my personal goals
There are things like:
1. I want to work out consistently.
2. I want to practice more self-care/self-love.
3. I want to eat healthier.
4. I want to be a better version of myself daily.
5. I want to be a force of good.
Just get it done.
However, my list seems like an impossible task–hence why I will break it down into steps to set myself up for success. The tips that I found most beneficial in goal setting is: Make the goals small and measurable. Furthermore, celebrate your progress.
We all need a cheerleader.
So find an accountability partner. Wherever you are; start today. Believe in yourself. Believe in what you’re creating. Be the change that you want to see. It all starts with you. You don’t have to wait till you get a new year in order to be better. For instance, if you want more love in your life; love yourself and those around you. Meanwhile, if you want to be healthier, become more cognizant of your choices. Moreover, it is time to get out of your head. That is to say, stop giving in to toxicity. Keep your goals in front of you. Don’t stop until you reach them. Above all, clap for your own self! Every little step matters. Life is happening, now. Now is all you have.
