Fam,
Reproductive justice is central to Black liberation. Any limit on abortion access disproportionately harms Black women, girls, transgender, and gender-nonconforming people. Black people deserve real reproductive justice, including affordable and unobstructed access to abortion care. On November 8th, we need you to vote for reproductive justice.
When the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June, it diminished the self-determination of millions of Black people. Self-determination is a crucial pillar of Black power. The right to maintain our bodily autonomy and make decisions about our families—to have children, to not have children, and to safely parent the children we already have—is essential to our freedom.
The fall of Roe is painful, but now is a time to stay vigilant and engaged. Reproductive justice includes the right for all women, trans, and gender-nonconforming people to access safe and voluntary contraception; to become pregnant, carry, and bear children in a safe environment free from police violence and environmental toxins; and to have access to affordable, non-judgmental abortion services.
We have tools at our disposal to resist, and voting is one of them. Abortion is on the ballot for all of us as we must elect leaders who will fight hard for our right to accessible and expansive reproductive care. But some states also have major ballot measures focusing on abortion up for a vote on November 8th. To learn more about these initiatives on the ballot in California, Michigan, Vermont, Kentucky, and Montana and how to vote on them to defend reproductive autonomy, check out t0.his TIME article breaking them down.
In this midterm election, help us advance reproductive justice by voting for the policies that imagine the best conditions for Black people, and then join a local organization and organize!
