Some Love Ends Because It’s Complete
I couldn’t become who I am now if I had stayed with you.
And I don’t say that with anger. Or bitterness. Or the need to rewrite what we were into something uglier just so it’s easier to let go.
Some love doesn’t end because it was wrong.
It ends because it was… finished. Because it took you as far as it could take you.
There are parts of me that only exist because of you.
The way I learned how to open up. The way I learned how to care without keeping score. The way I learned how to imagine a future that was bigger than just surviving the week.
You shaped me in quiet ways I’ll probably never fully be able to explain to anyone without sounding a little dramatic.
And I don’t want to erase that.
I don’t want to pretend it didn’t matter. Because it did. It really did.
But loving you also taught me something uncomfortable:
It taught me who I couldn’t become if I stayed.
It showed me how much of myself I was shrinking.
How many questions I was postponing.
How often I was choosing comfort over honesty.
Not because you forced me to.
But because I didn’t yet know how to grow without holding on to something familiar.
That’s the part nobody warns you about. Sometimes you don’t leave because something is broken. Sometimes you leave because you’re starting to wake up.
For a long time, I thought outgrowing something meant I was ungrateful. Or disloyal. Or somehow failing at love.
But I think my final act of love is letting both truths exist at the same time:
That I couldn’t become this version of myself with you.
And that I never could have become them without you.
Some people don’t stay forever.
But they stay in the way you speak more gently.
In the way you love more carefully.
In the way you finally learn what you need instead of what you’re used to.
And maybe the most loving thing you can do isn’t to hold on longer than you should…
Maybe it’s to carry what it gave you forward and keep becoming
