Setting goals elevates us and provides us with structure for our day. It enables us to have a narrow lens on a specific target we want to reach. I have begun to write my goals on my whiteboard next to my work desk so that I see them when I wake up and start work. It reminds me throughout the day what I am trying to achieve. Reminding myself of my goals throughout the day, motivates me and drives me to excel. It highlights to me the success that I continue to achieve each day. While writing this, I just was thinking about all the strides I have made this year. And while pondering, I am sure this is the best year yet! I have progressed my chartership a great degree than in the past 6 years of working. I just had a thought, that ‘if’ only I had done this when I graduated. I recognise now this is negative talk, which I now block out whenever thoughts like this enter my mind. I feel like through this, I have attained additional calmness. In the last week, I think I have made a huge step change in my thought process and it has relaxed me greatly.

Goals bring more clarity and enable us to be more positive as we continually work towards them. It has made me happier. While at work, I do my best to celebrate my successes and wins. When I think of my other wins this year, it feels me with pride to say that I have added 3 more accreditations to my Masters and Bachelors in Civil Engineering. I never really use to celebrate my wins. Mostly, focused on the negatives, which made me fearful and anxious.
…
Writing also helps with this and this is something that I have kept consistent since April of this year. Writing and setting goals for Medium has also made me much more at peace in my mind. With these goals, I plan to continue the traction along with everything else. To me, this year has made me learn more than ever about the art of keeping busy. It brings great success and tranquillity. It has aided me to be focused on the present, which I hardly ever did before I started to write.

Setting SMART goals is always essential. This acronym has been used extensively in my degrees and courses. It stands for Smart, Measurable, Achievable/Attainable, Realistic/Relevant and Time-Bound, which enables me to set goals that I can achieve daily, monthly and yearly. My main goal is to become chartered by the end of 2024.
It would be great to know what your goals are this year and the next and how you work towards them. I always welcome new techniques, that I can try and incorporate into my mind with special techniques.
Thanks for reading and have a great week! 🙂
