Throughout human history certain people have hated, fought, battled, and killed their fellow human beings. If you asked the individuals that were responsible for the wars and injustices, many would be inclined to say they committed the horrors because they disliked or disagreed with people because they were different or because they had something that the dictators desired.
Violence, hatred, and a disrespect for human life sadly continue to ravage the world today, leaving it a bit more hurt, a bit more mad, and a bit more empty. The ancients enslaved those peoples they deemed inferior to them, and Americans of the past few centuries were little better. Adolf Hitler had millions murdered due to their color, race, religion, or mental capacity, considering them as pests which had to be exterminated at all costs.
A lack of respect and bloodshed still take place on global proportions. However, the modern center stage for concepts such as hate crimes, political correctness, and racism is probably the United States. For centuries the nation has touted itself as “land of the free and home of the brave.” It might be the land of the free now, but that phrase does not mean that a citizen can do absolutely anything he or she wants to.
True liberty comes as a package deal; it is accompanied by responsibility. The two go hand in hand. As I write, I hope to remind you that actions often speak louder than words. As a reasoning human being you know that you have a choice. You can do what is wrong and pay the consequences, or you can freely choose to make the right move and be responsible for yourself and your actions. People tend to hold on to the wrong ideals from our past such as any form of racial supremecy or war.
Progress is often a necessary and beneficial outcome; people need to mature, grow up, and become responsible. Can you seriously look at another person and think to yourself that you are in some way vastly superior to that person? Too many of us seem to respond to violence with more violence.
If we really want pure equality wholly accepted and upheld, we need to set an example. We can’t let our pride or anger overcome us. Your violence is no better than somebody else’s. When we see violence in the world around us, whether related to racism or not, we can start to help the situation by acting in a nonviolent, nonagressive manner.
If you act more out of reasoning as opposed to emotion including anger, and treat all those you meet with mutual respect, then you have really shown yourself to be a better man than many. If people were to take such a notion to heart, I believe the world would not be filled with so much fear and so many racial tensions. The Earth and everyone on it would be truly free and possess equal rights.
