I have been taught that I have to help others out and share my stuff since I was little, I am an only child so it was good that they did that in order to break that “selfish only-child mentality”
I really appreciate what they did in order for me to be who I am right now yet I have been thinking about how being selfless can actually sabotage someone’s productivity and goals.
We are sadly living in a world where people try to take advantage from as much people as they can to make their work easier! If you are like me then you probably said yes a LOT and felt like you never had enough time to do everything you really wanted.
I used to think that being nice and helping others as much as possible was a good path to go through and I was not wrong, to some extent.
You don’t have to do their work, you have to give them value and tips that makes their work easier while not taking that much time out of your day.
Another thing that you could do when you cannot give tips about the subject at hand (like going out) is to simply say no, it may sound harsh for some, like it did to me the first time I said it but it is necessary to give yourself the space and time to work on what you want.
Some people will understand others will not, don’t worry about it though, the people that stay at your side after this are the true friends that know that you are really into reaching your goal!
Don’t feel bad for being selfish with your time, remember that you can’t go back in time (yet) so it is crucial for us to use it as wisely as possible.
I am not saying that you have to go and write 20 articles per day (if you write) and never see the light of day, unless your goal is to burnout in a week.
There has to be a balance between your life and your “work”.
I’m telling you this since some of my articles have been created while walking somewhere or when talking to a friend! Don’t underestimate the power of experiences! So go out and live your life!
Be selfish with your time but know when to give in! We all have a right to enjoy our life!
Much love to every single one of you!
