Hey, kids, it’s Wisdom Wednesday, and today’s wisdom comes from hockey great Wayne Gretzky. He says, “You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.”
Oftentimes in life, the tendency is to play it safe for various reasons. When I was younger and learning how to snow ski, I was proud of myself for making it down the hill without falling. However, the reason I didn’t fall was because I was snowplowing most of the time, which really took all of the fun out of skiing.
It is good to weigh the pros and cons before making a decision, but if you never take a shot because you’re scared you might miss, well then, you’ve already missed. The greatest accomplishments in your life will involve some sort of risk. We fool ourselves into thinking if we just play it safe, we won’t lose anything; however, you might actually be losing more by not taking a shot.
It reminds me of another quote that I’ve shared before, which says, “If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.” I hope you take your shot when you get the chance. Have a great day, and God bless you.
