A few hours later, Richardson announced he would be selling his share of the Panthers at the conclusion of the season, and a contender to replace him immediately emerged: music mogul Diddy. The rapper turned entrepreneur tweeted that he wanted to buy the team and later added with a Trumpian flourish that he “would be the best NFL owner that you could imagine.” In a video statement, he discussed his plans to sign Colin Kaepernick to “put him in the running for next year’s starting quarterback” — which probably wouldn’t sit well with current starter and 2015 MVP Cam Newton — and also declared that he would have the best halftime shows. Diddy, who famously put out “It’s All About the Benjamins” (among many other hits), will have to fork over plenty of Benjamins to be a viable candidate. Although Richardson doesn’t own the whole franchise (he has a 49 percent stake), Forbes estimates the Panthers are worth $2.3 billion, making this a likely billion-dollar-plus endeavor. One person who’s volunteering to help is Golden State Warriors superstar and longtime Carolinian Steph Curry, who tweeted his interest, too. Over the last day, “Diddy + Panthers” has a 69 percent positive score on Social. –Alex Shultz
