People are lonelier than ever.
According to an NPR article, Americans Are A Lonely Lot, And Young People Bear The Heaviest Burden, a nationwide survey by the health insurer Cigna underscores that it finds that loneliness is widespread in America, with nearly 50 percent of respondents reporting that they feel alone or left out always or sometimes.
I may be exaggerating a bit, but it can be a good thing when a job is not working out. You can discern on what is working and what is not working out in your position. Are the people you work with condescending or uplifting? Do you have to compromise your soul to be accepted by other people in your work?
Let’s zoom out some and look at it from a distance–if you are working in a job where you are not respected, or people understand you, why not align yourself with the right work position and the right people in your life. Why not celebrate your uniqueness and talents with people who understand you? You can also try to get to know people better so they can relate to you more effectively.
Before giving up on a job, try to get to know your co-workers and supervisors better. Be willing to be more vulnerable and share a little about yourself. You may find out that they like the same TV shows as you or that they enjoy swimming at the YMCA. People have more in common with each other than they realize.
You lose your authenticity when you always try to follow the herd and emulate other people. It feels good to be with people who support you and love you for who you are in this world.
For years, I had a sign, “Mavericks Don’t Follow the Herd.” It reminded me that it’s ok to be a unique individual and not always to try to “fit in” with others. Have you noticed that when you are authentic, you attract other like-minded people like yourself?
You know what you are passionate about and what excites you in your life. You probably have ideas that you want to see come to fruition. You are meant to be engaged in activities, friends, and a career that supports your highest purpose on this earth. You must listen to your gut feelings or intuition that is pushing you to be authentic and happy.
Oprah Winfrey was fired from her evening news reporter gig with Baltimore’s WJZ-TV because she got too emotionally invested in her stories. A Baltimore TV producer reportedly told her she was “unfit for television news.” This action led Oprah to her being offered a daytime TV show as a consolation.
Oprah immediately knew that she was on the right path and where her uniqueness would shine. How many people are recognized by their first name? Millions or possibly billions of people on this earth have heard of Oprah. She is respected by many for her soulful interviews and philanthropy to make other people’s lives better.
Being authentic and being the real “you” may create more self-esteem, joy, inner peace, creativity, and unconditional love for yourself. It takes a lot of work to emulate others, but it’s easy to be yourself.
Stop comparing yourself to others. Be yourself and shine your light. We all have a unique destiny—to be authentic and live the life our soul demands. Embrace your uniqueness! If you want to empower yourself– now is the perfect time to appreciate yourself and find your tribe of people
Never compromise your happiness by trying to be someone other than yourself or following the herd to be liked by others. Be a Maverick and hang out with like-minded people.
