In this series, I want to share lessons I’ve gleaned over the years to offer some perspective to co-travelers on life’s journey because learning from others’ experiences means avoiding unnecessary pitfalls and charting more fulfilling courses for ourselves.
The Challenges and obstacles that will test your resolve will always come. And though people generally tend to view them only as mere setbacks, they always come with valuable lessons to teach us. In reality, adversity has the power to provide clarity.
Whether you are struggling to overcome a personal loss, a career setback, or you are facing health challenges, adversity has a unique way of stripping away the distractions and misconceptions so can see things with greater lucidity. It is also a time you are forced to not only confront your fears and reevaluate your priorities and to tap into your inner strength, sometimes in ways you never thought possible.
“In every adversity there lies the seed of an equivalent advantage. In every defeat is a lesson showing you how to win the victory next time.” — Robert Collier
It is only human to feel discouraged but it is during your challenging times that you have the opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your priorities. You can, therefore, reevaluate your goals, values, and your relationships to focus on what truly matters in your life.
Never overlook the clarity that adversity provides, because therein lies the wisdom to see the path forward. So, rather than viewing adversity as a roadblock, choose to see it as a teacher dispensing the invaluable lessons that can shape your character and outlook.
Do not make the mistake of missing the lessons in adversity, they are stepping stones to your personal growth.
“Adversity, which looks and feels like such a determined enemy, can become a valuable ally. Only you can decide which it will be.” — Joni Eareckson
