When I first heard about GoT, I was in my teens and all I heard was “there’s a lot of porn” in it. Naive, little Athirah believed it at face value and I didn’t bother to learn what the show is about.
As I got older, that’s all I could think about — The show is about incest, nudity and sex. That’s probably why my peers love it so much. You know, being horny teenagers and all. But I didn’t want my parents to catch me watching porn so I stayed away from the show entirely.
The FOMO made me watch
Only recently did I start watching GoT. And it’s because I kept seeing advertisements using the GoT theme, and media companies making parodies.
One of my favourites was from SGAG.
And I kept seeing this badass scene. I love it.
So, after watching small snippets of the show and tiny spoilers from mainstream media, I decided to watch GoT.
First Impression — Why Is This Show So Popular?
As I watched episode after episode of GoT in season 1, I still couldn’t figure out why this show received so much fame.
It can’t be due to all the sex scenes, can it? Well, maybe that was what got people’s attention. I’m kidding.
The last episode made me want to continue watching. I mean, come on… 3 DRAGONS!
Twists & Turns
The show got better from there with each episode keeping viewers on the edge. The writers and casts were able to capture your emotions.
I’ve never hated a character so much as I did with Joffrey. He is the worst human to be King.
Even though I hated him to the core, it was still pretty shocking and saddening to see him dying on his wedding day. HIS WEDDING.
The Critics Said Season 5–8 Sucks But I Disagree
Unfortunately, season 4 was the last good season. Or at least, that’s what online fans were saying but I disagree. I’ve never read the book so I wouldn’t know how much different it is.
As a watcher of the TV series, I’d say it actually picked up after season 4.
The Battle Of The Bastards in season 6 was amazing. But that set a high bar for the show to continue with. The episodes after the battle were pretty slow but what would you expect after an epic fight?
The show redeemed itself in episode 3 of season 8 where winter finally came and they went up against the thousands of white walkers and the Night King.
My heart was being pulled from every corner as brave men and women fought the white walkers. It seemed impossible to win.
Not to exaggerate but I literally got up and started clapping when Arya drove that dagger in the Night King. It was unexpected and cool AF.
The Mad Queen
The show did pretty well in removing misogyny and empowering female ruler… until the last few episodes where they painted Daenerys Targaryen as a psychotic, emotional ruler.
Throughout the series, Daenerys has always shown signs of being a ruthless leader who would burn the people who disobeyed her. So, it shouldn’t be the burning of the city shouldn’t be THAT shocking.
It’s still sad though.
All those innocent people on the ground burning for crimes done by others. And while they burn, Cersei reunited with her lover and died in his arms.
Where’s the justice in that?
The Last Episode Is Coming
It’s a couple of days away from the last episode of the end of Game Of Thrones. There are so many questions that’ll be left unanswered. It seems too rushed to end it in one episode.
What are the possible endings?
- Sansa telling Jon, “I told you so”.
- Arya kills Daenerys and Jon takes the throne
- Everyone dies and a new group of royale family emerges
This article is pretty short and there are a lot of parts I didn’t cover. But I want to read your thoughts on the show.
Do you love it or hate it? What do you think is going to happen? Who will sit on the throne? What’s your favourite episode?
