My blood is boiling. But not because of last month’s horror show in Venezuela.
That was certainly bad enough. Kidnapping another country’s leader is not exactly in line with international law and norms. However, it was what came next that enraged me and caused my insides to contract and curdle.
Here’s what happened: our out-of-control Resident (I refuse to call him our president), Donald Trump, reiterated his vile threats against Greenland, Denmark, Colombia, Iran, and Mexico. That is, our maniac-in-chief doubled down (again) on his greedy, bellicose threats against friend and foe alike.
- He insisted the U.S. ‘needs’ and ‘must have’ Greenland.
- He doesn’t care one bit that Greenlanders have said “No way!” or that Greenland is a protected territory of Denmark, one of our NATO allies.
- He insulted and directly threatened President Petro and the nation of Colombia, calling Petro “a sick man who likes making cocaine and selling it to the United States.” When asked if an invasion of Colombia is coming soon, Trump replied, “Sounds good to me.”
- He is relentlessly pushing Mexico to accept US military ‘assistance’ to combat powerful drug cartels. He won’t take ‘No’ for an answer, and says he’d like to bomb the hell out of various cartel sites inside Mexico.
- He told Iran that if they kill any more protesters, we will invade Iran and protect them.He insisted, “the United States of America will come to their rescue. We are locked and loaded and ready to go.”
During Trump’s first term, I recall many commentators observing that he was “not very presidential” in his demeanor. Hmm, understatement, anyone? But in his second term, Trump has abandoned any pretense of ‘presidential’ attitudes or restraint. Instead, he has morphed into a full-on dictator and tyrant.
He has abandoned the rule of law and spurned the entire international order. Now, much of the world is under threat from the U.S. and its Trump-led actions. Now, the entire world — except for Putin and Netanyahu, Trump’s dictator buddies — is feeling mounting dread about the US’s intensifying militarism and territorial ambitions.
And scarily, this mad (and maddening) scenario keeps getting worse by the day.
A toxic stew of personality disorders
It’s been more than a decade since Trump rode down that golden escalator and into a prominent (even dominant) place in modern world history. Yet, after a full decade of watching him in action, many Americans and most GOP politicians still apparently have no idea of what we’re up against or who Donald Trump really is.
For anyone with even a modicum of awareness, it should be obvious that Trump is mentally and morally unfit to be president. Trump is a highly unusual human being (thankfully!), in that he is utterly amoral. He embodies in one person all the sins, moral failings, and weaknesses that plague humanity.
From a psychological standpoint, Trump embodies the worst aspects of several severe personality disorders, including malignant narcissism, sociopathy, and megalomania. In everyday terminology, he is a greedy, self-centered, sadistic, vengeful, and manipulative ‘control freak’ who wants to dominate everything and everybody.
For anyone “with eyes to see and ears to hear,” Trump’s viciousness and total lack of empathy are quite obvious. So, why do so many Americans not see this?
Trump is an ‘outsider,’ all right — to everything moral and just
The answers I’ve arrived at are deeply uncomfortable. The primary reason is that Trump is fully aligned with America’s capitalist goals, arrogance, and expansionist aspirations, and in this way is a direct reflection or even fulfillment of our greed, racism, and hard-heartedness.
He has made it crystal clear that he doesn’t care about democracy, equality, equal opportunity, or justice and fairness. In truth, he is an outsider to all the varied attitudes or qualities that inform modern, multi-cultural democratic societies.
Recall, he ran for president as a “Washington outsider.” What most Americans didn’t realize — and many still don’t — is that Trump is also an ‘outsider’ in much more significant and dangerous ways. As Trump has shown us, over and over again, he is actually a total outsider to morality, caring, sharing, and empathy. In fact, he is a complete ‘outsider’ to ALL the moral, ethical, and emotional qualities that underlie modern societies.
In this way, Trump is literally a throwback to a much earlier and darker time in human history. If he had his way — and he’s working hard at this — he’d revitalize and reinstate racism, slavery, misogyny, and ‘robber baron’ capitalism. Simultaneously, he’s always working to undermine and overthrow democracy and put Blacks and women back ‘in their place.’ What a great guy! What a “manly man”!
Uh, NO. What an utter, complete asshole — and megalomaniac. And today, he’s the most powerful man in the world, bar none.
What, exactly, is ‘megalomania’?
What does it actually mean to be a “megalomaniac”? Nothing good, that’s for sure.
Several months ago, I wrote an article describing Trump as a “raging megalomaniac.” Since then, his overt megalomania has only intensified — as evidenced by his bizarre, arrogant threats against all the nations mentioned above.
The first section of that article states:
“The Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines megalomania in two ways:
1) “a mania for great or grandiose performance” [mania is a state of intense, compulsive mental imbalance]
2) “a delusional mental illness that is marked by feelings of personal omnipotence and grandeur.”
Thus, a megalomaniac is someone who embodies the above characteristics. A megalomaniac is grandiose, delusional, and focused on his own supposed ‘greatness.’ A megalomaniac is an over-the-top egotist who is convinced of his own superiority, grandeur, and omnipotence — and demands fealty and submission.
So, according to the above definition, is Trump a megalomaniac? Check, double-check, and triple-check.
That entire definition might have been written specifically for Donald Trump.”
It’s clear now, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Trump is a raging, bullying megalomaniac. The past few days have shown that he wants to control, abuse, and manipulate the entire Western world and all the nations in it. And he doesn’t even care if they are our allies or not. It is super-aggressive grandiosity, for sure — and nothing but aggressive grandiosity.
To be blunt, the US and the Western world are now in big, big trouble, with no end in sight.
A tsunami of worsening megalomania
As noted, Trump embodies almost all the symptoms of narcissism, sociopathy, and megalomania. What is truly terrifying is that his symptoms and accompanying actions are rapidly getting worse. He is now on a major ‘tear’ and is not inclined to restrain himself.
Last year, Trump received major ego-strokes on two fronts — and the last thing you should ever do with a megalomaniac is inflate his ego. First, the US Supreme Court, in its infinite folly, enhanced his ‘unitary executive’ powers and freed him from lingering fears about being prosecuted for any actions as president. Then, in November, he was re-elected, winning both the Electoral College and popular vote.
Clearly, for Trump, these two events were a total validation of his strongman approach to ‘ruling’ the US and our society. As he likes to put it, in his weird third-person way, “Trump was right!!” He was emboldened, and his approach to ‘ruling’ the US quickly became much more authoritarian and despotic.
All constraints were now gone; he fully ‘owned’ the GOP; and he was free to be his true arrogant self and oppress, threaten, insult, and seek vengeance on anyone, anywhere.
And he hasn’t been shy or quiet about it.
As recent events have shown, Trump is embracing full-scale megalomania in his oft-repeated intent to dominate the Western Hemisphere. He truly wants to rule the world, or at least the vast Western portion of it.
We’re mired in a dire Trumpian ‘reality’ — with no easy way out
In a CNN.com article dated 1/6/26, I found these frightening paragraphs and links:
“Today, [Trump’s] political social media account is depicting him lording over all of North and South America, while a State Department account is declaring the Western Hemisphere to be “OUR Hemisphere.”
This seems to be a version of Trump that was always there, but that he just suppressed for a while because it wasn’t politically feasible.”
But now, his insane, domineering version of geopolitics IS “politically feasible.” Plus, I read yesterday that Trump is pushing hard for a new $1 coin bearing his image. Of course, he is!! Forget consequential, respected past presidents — America needs a $1 coin emblazoned with the manly profile of “Don the Con” Trump!
A while back, I wrote that our bizarre American ‘reality’ has even surpassed (by a mile) the phrase “You can’t make this shit up!”
Recent events have amplified our ugly, crazed ‘reality’ even more, to the point that our allies, and many nations around the world, are left wondering how the US and NATO will survive this and just how they will be able to respond/react to keep from becoming active targets of US military aggression and invasion.
It’s a scary, scary time. Trump’s megalomania seems to be gathering steam and expanding — and along with it, his aggressive, expansionist impulses and scornful disregard for other nations’ autonomy and freedom.
Trump is gleefully lording it over both the US and the Western hemisphere, and appears to have no guardrails holding him back anymore. None. The US Congress has rolled over and capitulated — and is now ‘playing dead.’
The nations of Europe and Central and South America are all intensely worried — and they should be. Beneath their public efforts to sound diplomatic, their growing fear and horror are all too apparent. Of course, they have good reason to be afraid and horrified.
Trump and his MAGA-fied administration are totally trashing the current world order, modernity, democracy, and the rule of law. All of these vital social goods are being replaced with bullying strong-man tactics and the narcissistic demands of a raging megalomaniac.
The nations of the world are right to be utterly aghast at what’s happening. The citizens of the US should wake up and follow their lead. And our horror should lead to ongoing mass protests; we need to keep protesting — frequently — and never stop.
That’s the vital next step in reclaiming our nation and restoring a measure of sanity.

Thank you for the care you took in assessing the persona involved. Humbly, I think it is important to add sleezy to the megalomania, acknowledging that as long as the 60% of Americans that disagree with him allow him to go on, indeed the little bit of humane world left is at risk. We also have to think about how to avoid in the future the build up of that other “40%”. 10% of a certain form of psychopathy will always be around in all societies and we need to take care not to give them the key of the… Read more »
