Unrequited Love: What To Do With One-Way Love

So you love someone and you really want that person to be your boyfriend (or girlfriend), but he or she just wants to be friends?

This is a difficult situation for you, and unrequited (one-way) love is one of the most challenging experiences a teenager may deal with. However, you need to understand the truth of this situation.

There is nothing you can do to make somebody love you or even like you. It is good if that person even wants to be friends – he or she may not even want to do that. Plus, even though you love that person, there is no relationship going on. Ultimately, you need to realise that this whole situation is a fantasy – there is no reality in any of this.

So what can you do? Well, I think you should try to make friends with this person. It will be fun for you to hang out and you can find out what he or she is really like. Also, he or she can find out what YOU are like. The person you love might turn out to be even better than you imagined and he or she might also develop an attraction to you. However, the converse is also true – it could be that he or she turns out to be completely different to what you had imagined, so then, in that scenario, you will quickly lose your attraction for that person and realise that your love was never true to begin with.

So I think that your best option is to get to know this person by trying to be friends. If everything goes well, that person might reciprocate your love and you’ll have an exciting new relationship! If things don’t turn out like that, at least you’ll know that person better and the two of you will be that much closer! So be friendly and see what happens!
