Why Donald Trump Is (Still) ‘The World’s Most Dangerous Man’

[An update of a Medium article first published on June 16, ‘23]

Ihoped I was done writing — needing to write — about the *^&)$!% Orange Menace. I’ve been wishing that for years, already… but he just keeps going and going, like some maniacal, rapacious Energizer Bunny and ‘lie machine.’

So far, nothing seems to stop him, contain him, or slow him down — not even a major 34-count conviction!

And that’s a big part of why he’s ‘The World’s Most Dangerous Man.’

But take heart — I’m going to keep this article brief. I’m just going to detail several of the very good reasons Trump should never get anywhere near the White House, ever again… and should spend the rest of his life in prison instead.

Trumps’ niece Mary Trump first called him “The World’s Most Dangerous Man” in the subtitle of her 2020 tell-all about Trump and his family. I was reminded how totally right she was/is and how terribly dangerous he is when I read this article on CNN.com, about how Trump keeps trying to muzzle or ‘cancel’ the Georgia investigation(s) into his attempts to overturn the 2020 election.

And the same maddening M.O. is being applied to ALL of the indictments against him. Over the past year, Trump and his legal team have managed to delay, derail, or even squash many of the deadly-serious criminal indictments against him (with much help from a wacko district judge in Florida, Aileen Cannon, and a fascism-friendly Supreme Court).

So one reason Trump is incredibly dangerous is that he’s always pushing hard — often successfully — to undermine and paralyze our criminal justice system.

He’s even managed to turn the GOP, the former staid ‘law and order party,’ into a seditious lunacy-fest that now hates and distrusts the FBI — yes, the FBI! — and wants to muzzle and cripple both the FBI and the entire Federal justice system.

He’s a pathological liar AND a raging narcissist — and that’s a super-dangerous combination

The underlying problem here — and it’s huge — is that Trump is both a pathological liar and a total narcissist, so he lies with abandon and simply makes shit up whenever it suits him (and it almost always suits him).

In this case, he keeps insisting — loudly and constantly — that the Department of Justice and the Feds are singling him out and ‘persecuting’ him; that all investigations into his seditious speech and actions are just ‘witch hunts’ and partisan ‘election interference’ meant to derail his presidential campaign; and that Democrats, the Special Counsel, and all those seeking to prosecute him are part of a massive ‘Deep State’ conspiracy against him.

All of these outrageous, bizarre claims (a.k.a. self-serving lies) ignore the factual evidence that Trump has said and done many, many things that deserve scrutiny and investigation — and many of these activities also merit active prosecutions and possible convictions.

But Trump is so effective as a demagogue and public instigator-in-chief that he (along with far-right media and ‘news’) has succeeded wildly in turning most of the GOP and many supposedly ‘patriotic’ Republicans against their government and against the forceful, full application of the laws and rules undergirding ‘law and order’ — at least when it comes to Trump.

Is Trump above the law? The GOP says ‘Sure — why not?!’

They’d very much like to give him — and him alone — a universal ‘Get out of jail free’ card. Which is exactly what he wants and has been angling for (relentlessly) all along.

He sees himself as totally above the law, and the GOP is enabling his intense bravado and lawlessness.

So another good reason that Trump is incredibly dangerous is that he is a raging, shameless narcissist and — no exaggeration — to him literally every. single. thing. is all (and only) about him. He truly couldn’t care less if the U.S. collapses and goes down in a seditious explosion of unhinged and murderous civil conflict.

In fact, if violent conflict or societal collapse help him gain or hold onto power… I’m sure he’d be quite happy to foment it (as he is already doing) and would totally love it.

Remember: Trump reportedly was gleeful as his enraged supporters stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and he avidly watched them ransacking our seat of government (and aiming to hang Vice-President Pence) for hours on his TV — and loved every minute of it. ‘HIS people’ were doing his bidding!

He’s a supreme con man — and a great con man knows exactly how to manipulate all the ‘marks’

Here’s the most consequential truth about Trump: you can’t trust him at all, with or about anything. He’s a devious manipulator and bully and simply can’t be trusted.

Yet he consistently gets millions of people to trust and admire him and put their lives in his hands. Big mistake!

The thing that people constantly forget is: Trump is essentially a con man, super-salesman, and brazen egomaniac, and he’s been busy conning Americans into thinking he’s a ‘true patriot’ and has the good of our country at heart — when nothing could ever be further from the truth. He’s even conned/bullied almost the entire GOP into backing him and enabling him!

The reality is that Trump is always and only concerned about the fortunes of Donald Trump and ‘winning.’ End of story. And his total narcissism, when combined with his formidable abilities as a con man and populist demagogue, makes him a very, very dangerous and potentially nation-destroying force.

Now the battle has been joined. Or — has it?

Luckily, the battle has now been joined, and the U.S. and various states have initiated prosecutions in areas ranging from defrauding the public to conspiring to steal the 2020 election to stealing and hoarding hundreds of classified documents.

Oh, wait — he already got the classified documents case dismissed (though the DOJ is trying hard to reinstate it). And all the others are delayed or on hold, indefinitely.

So yes, the battle has been joined — kinda, sorta — but it’s very unclear who will actually win. Trump’s loud and wildly effective demagoguery has turned much of the nation against our own justice system, and he has deliberately set the stage for massive post-election violence and open insurrection if he loses. Even an increasingly plausible civil war (heaven forbid).

Plus, he’s got far-right media completely under his thumb, and they are constantly blaring their total support for all his lies and seditious manipulations.

Here’s the crucial point: While Trump could never have fomented such intense divisiveness and wrought as much damage as he’s wrought alone, without massive support and assistance from far-right media, MAGA cultists, and the GOP itself…

Nevertheless, it’s also true that without Trump probably none of these awful trends would have happened or intensified so much, since he is the prime motivating and demagogic force behind ALL of these trends.

In that sense — and that sense only — he’s actually right when he thinks it’s all about him. He truly IS the direct cause of many of our nation’s current woes and fierce partisan hatreds.

Politically and morally, he IS the linchpin and prime causative ‘X factor’ behind our nation’s terrible tribulations and divisiveness.

Trump vs. the U.S. — and the winner is… ??

Amazing, isn’t it? And horrifying.

Here we have a huge and powerful nation, the U.S.A., trying desperately to defend and save itself and pursue the effective rule of law… vs. Donald Trump, a combative megalomaniac and super-manipulative narcissist who conned and bullied his way into being the GOP’s (awful) candidate for president — yet again — and also vs. the far-right media, GOP politicians, and voters he’s got wrapped around his middle finger, who keep enabling him no matter what.

Even when he’s giving us all ‘the finger’ and perpetrating an endless, leering “Fuck You!” against the entire U.S.!

And today — after more than nine years of incessant Trumpian BS — it’s still frighteningly unclear who will ultimately prevail.

So far, I haven’t heard or seen even one convincing argument that the U.S. will definitively win this battle. Plus, even if Trump IS convicted on some of the many charges against him… his endless appeals and subversive delay tactics will ensure that actual prison time is still a long way off.

And meanwhile… he’ll remain free to create more havoc. Meanwhile, the U.S. is being methodically ripped apart, and keeps collapsing into divisive fury and severe social and political paralysis — mainly due to the persistent corrosive, indeed poisonous, influence of one very messed up, powerful man: Donald Trump.

That’s why Trump is, without doubt, The World’s Most Dangerous Man.
