Recently, I came across multiple Medium articles as well as Youtube videos stating the many benefits that you can reap by waking up at 5 AM. Some even claim that:
“If you wake up at 5 AM for 30 days straight, your entire life will change.”
Personally, I just don’t think that this works for everyone. And I am going to list out why there is no point waking up at 5 AM.
1. Time is Time
Time is time. A day has only 24 hours. That is a fact that you cannot change. (Unless you are going to argue with me that the length of the day on Earth has grown by approximately one 74 thousandths of a second per year since Precambrian times.)
And many articles like this by Benjamin Hardy state that waking up at 5 AM means having time for Personal Development. Or Mark Wahlberg says that he wakes up at 3 AM to work out so that he has more time for his family.
This is simply misleading.
I will always have time for Personal Development or for my family if I make time for it. And not because I wake up at 5 AM or 3 AM. Mark Wahlberg sleeps at 7 PM, meaning he has a total of 8 Hours of Sleep. Hence, if you sleep at 12 PM but wake at 8 AM, you are essentially the same as him.
Both of you had 8 Hours of Sleep.
2. We are Different
We all have different body clocks and our productive gears function differently. Some of us can work well in the morning. Others at night. And maybe some in the afternoon.
And that’s fine. As long as work gets done, you are good to go.
3. It is about the mentality
I believe the takeaway from the 5 AM club is the mentality instead of the timing. It is about setting aside time for your side hustles and having the mentality and dedication to complete it. What we need is the right lifestyle, instead of following this odd schedule. I am tired of people attributing their success to this 5 AM routine. They are successful because of their hard work and dedication to the task.
Let’s get working!
