What matters?
What has ever mattered?
I know what matters, of course. Some days…
My heart tells me. It always has. Even when I ignored it.
But more recently, after uncovering my very soul, it also has given me visions of what actually matters in a world manipulated, controlled, and awed at by man.
I found the crossroads of the animal and the intellectual being that we truly are.
The question is, do you?
Your definition doesn’t have to match mine.
What matters is the depth in which it means something to you.
Are you a part of the Matrix; the industrial and progressive demand of modern man in efforts to turn its back on archaic and ancient wisdom?
Are you moving so fast to keep up with the self-importance of humanity that ever removes itself from the weaves of his truth as an animal; the symbiotic relationships in demand of our contributions for it’s growth and balance?
Have you found yourself separated from internal peace? Calm? Presence? The unconditional love of the elegance of existence?
If so, then maybe these two things don’t mean anything to you besides facts and romance.
But to me, it’s something more…
…
What are these two descriptive, yet broad words, left without interpretation? What could it mean for you, if I just leave them as a tail to every body I build?
The answer, truly, depends on your own feelings. Your own perspectives on both terms.
But firstly, I want you to know that I do it as a way to send a message.
It comes from my own beliefs about life.
The belief that the world works in balances. That “health”, both of you as an individual and how you include the world, comes with the “left and right” of all things. Even more so with the colors in between.
Truth itself is something we all seek.
We look for it in the external. It helps us make sense of the world, but more importantly ourselves. Yet, truth is pliable. And as such, it becomes fuzzy when we take the human mind, its faith system, along with its biases, traumas, and adolescent conditioning, and try to narrow down to all people, what truth is.
It’s just hard to agree.
There are our (mostly)unanimous truths:
- Murder and abuse are “sin”
- Humans are glorified animals(biology).
- A universe exists.
- Science proves physics and objective laws.
- We die.
But truth also has its most controversial debates, fueled by human diversity and historical story and progress:
- God or no god?
- Sex and gender
- Coincidence or conscious purpose?
- Free will or determinism?
- Reincarnation, heaven, or nothingness?
- Is purpose more about success or love?
So, truth…is a constant reminder of the importance of seeking what makes you…you.
…
And then there’s love.
I love love.
Love may just be why we do anything.
- Sex, lust, adoration, validation, compassion, understanding, joy. All things that love brings us.
It’s hard to argue that love is a negative addition to life, a necessity. If all of us were given the greatest forms of it…would we have ANY problems?
But the human is insanely flawed. And when an imperfect world does not provide love, its shadow reveals itself.
- Greed, jealousy, resentment, loathing, revenge, depression, anxiety.
Love is the abstract beauty of what makes life fantastic.
It’s the undefined energy that all of us seek, even when we refuse to do so. It’s the lack of love itself that makes us dark. Not that love is no good or unworthy of having.
And because love is something that we all arguably strive for, even in superficial or immature ways, it seems to be an end-all goal.
…
So in closing, the real reason I repeatedly mention truth and love to you Reader, is that I hope to remind you(and myself) that these two things are why we exist.
They are why we give reason and why we aspire to anything. They are why we are curious and why we declare the endless war on evil and the unknown.
It’s the very intelligence of the human mind that has almost forced us to seek these two things. And because the objective world demands balance, though never settling perfectly in it, it’s the striving for these things that keeps it all from falling apart.
Even as we undeniably and voraciously over consume the world, we still worry about it. We try to remind each other of the finality of all life and care what we leave behind when we ourselves lose our minds and cease to have heartbeats.
…
Your definitions of these two words don’t matter as much as your commitment to them.
To seek truth.
To find love.
Then take both and build a life you’re proud of and one that makes you feel full…and without regret by the end.
Because the most blatant truth that most turn their back on, is that death will come, whether you fear it or not. Whether you’re aware of it or not.
And the most important thing you can do is to love and live honestly before death does take you.
Truth and Love, Reader.
