Have you ever had a week where life suddenly handed you a massive, heavy responsibility, looked you in the eye, and said: “Your turn. Figure it out”?
No warning. No manual. No transition period to help you get your bearings. Just a sudden, overwhelming push into the deep end.
In those moments, our immediate instinct is to panic. We look around for the “adults in the room” until we realize we are the adults in the room. We feel like imposters. We tell ourselves, “I am not ready for this. I don’t know enough. I’m going to drop the ball.”
But I’m here to tell you: You do not need to feel ready to be entirely capable.
We spend so much of our lives waiting for a magical green light. We wait for the moment we feel 100% confident, 100% prepared, and 100% trained before we take action. But life rarely operates on a schedule that is convenient.
Sometimes, the most profound growth of your life happens when you are forced to step up before you feel prepared.
When you are caught in the storm and you choose to show up anyway — asking questions, making mistakes, and putting in the effort to keep things moving — you are doing something extraordinary. You are proving to yourself that your capability isn’t based on having all the answers beforehand. It is based on your willingness to learn them as you go.
You don’t need to do it perfectly. You have to do the next right thing, one small step at a time.
This week that happened to me, and while I do not know exactly how I’m going to pull through, I will.
So, if you are in it too, currently carrying a load that feels too heavy or navigating a path you weren’t prepared for, take a deep breath. Stand tall.
You might not feel ready, but you are doing it anyway.
If you like these kinds of real, bite-sized reflections, Mind Snacks is where I share one every week. Feel free to drop your own thoughts or situations there too — I’ll give you my honest take or advice when it fits
