“I agree. Honestly curious how you would respond to this article? (not mine; I just read it.)
How Many Women Must We Lose to Protect an Inappropriate Man? by Mia Brett“
The Good Men Project (on Medium) commented back:
“Hi Prisca. Thanks for sharing that article. We believe the experience of the author. Sexism, like racism, is systemic. That means it is not just everywhere — -it is built into the very fabric of our society. It is designed in a way that protects the most egregious of abusers (like actual rapists) by normalizing so many smaller abuses (a male dance teacher joking with a student about her breasts) — that we don’t know where to start to solve the problem.
At The Good Men Project, we have realized that when a problem is everywhere, the solution needs to be everywhere. When a problem is systemic, the solution needs to be systemic. For example — if enthusiastic consent was the norm, it would help stop the problem at a foundational level. But it can’t be the only solution. We need more stories like the one you shared, more laws, more education, more pay equality, more diversity everywhere.
Just because the problem is difficult to solve, doesn’t mean it’s impossible. And we are going to keep trying.”
