It’s a great point, right?
Writers Travis Nuckolls and Chris Baker asked a series of strangers on the streets of Colorado Springs whether they thought that being gay was a choice. Then they dropped this question on them.
Hooray for the power of asking the right thing at the right time.
“When did you choose to be straight?” or “When did sombody teach you to be attracted to the opposite sex?” Response: I did not choose to be straight. I am a man. What we decide to do sexually is a choice. And since men and women are naturally sexual compliments, that makes homosexuality an aberration. Nobody was born “homosexual” or “heterosexual” – we were born male or female. Design explains human beings better than social constructs like “homosexual” and “heterosexual” that was made up by some non-professional travel writer in Germany in the 1860s… http://therealsocialconstructisgay.wordpress.com/2012/08/20/invented-language-and-terms/ Design also explains human beings… Read more »
You are straight, so you made a choice to be with women? That is not logical. You are lucky I guess in that you found girls attractive instead of boys. Wish you would keep religion out of this, religion already does enough to make people hate other people.
..selected homosexuality into distinction? Clearly you are well educated about this subject!
It does not matter if its a choice. Being a Christian or not is a choice, but in the USA the 1st Amendment protects Freedom of Religion or From Religion too. I was raised by Catholic mother but I am an Atheist. I made the choice to not believe in God because in my rational mind I see no proof for and much against God. Faith is believing without the need for proof.
Religion was created to control our behavior. its more effective to use an all powerful God that will punish you for eternity for doing what God says is wrong. My parents could tell us that its difficult to keep kids from doing what they want because they say so. But if you tell that child not to because its a sin to God and they will spend eternity in torture than children raised Christian will suffer fear and self loathing. Many gay Christian kids have killed themselves because their faith condemned them and many parents rejected them becoming homeless often.… Read more »
One valid reason for homosexual relations then could be the high death rate of infants and children because each surviving child was needed to ensure the survival of the people. The reasons why homosexuality continues could be because many still hide and have children. There could be many benefits to having gays in the family which helps continue it. Aunts of gay men have more children because of increased sex drive and genes for homosexuality might be a reason. Many factors could be involved.

When Did You Choose To Be Straight? http://bit.ly/sfPPLN
Seriously, people need to cut LGBTs a break, they didn’t choose to have a sexual retardation. Would you go up to a kid with Down Syndrome, and ask him why he didn’t want to be normal like you?
I friggin love this video. Well done and thanks for sharing. The dumbfounded looks on their faces will keep me smiling for days!
Nicole: By the same token, shouldn’t we refrain from assuming that heterosexuality, too, is purely genetic in origin? That is to say, isn’t it a possibility that it could result from genetic or pre-birth influences, or from childhood abuse?
Until we have further information on this as well, I don’t think there’s grounds to say that heterosexuality and homosexuality can’t be accurately compared.
I love this video, but I also think it is a trick question. It is short sided to presume that homosexuality is only and always a genetic disposition. I appreciate the idea of raising the question and getting people to actually think, but it is not as simple as “yes” or “no”. There are studies with statistical support on either side of the issue–some supporting “born gay” some supporting “environmental factors” including sexual and mental abuse. It is unwise to compare homosexuality with heterosexuality across the board. I understand the draw in doing this, but in my opinion, it is… Read more »
Did they edit you out of this video?
What studies supporting sexual & mental abuse? You sound like a jackass.

Does it matter if it is a choice or not? I personally believe it is not a choice and even in cases of abuse or environment that still is not a choice. If my uncle abuses me when I am young and I associate sex with men as normal, did I choose to get molested? We need to not care how someone ended up homosexual and just say “who cares” and treat them the same as anyone else. If you are a consenting adult and love another consenting adult and want to marry them and they want to marry you,… Read more »
Actually, I’ve always had a problem with the “When did you choose to be straight” counter argument. To me, the obvious Conservative rebuttal is, “I did not choose to be straight. I am naturally straight. And since straight is natural, that makes homosexuality either a choice or an aberration.” I appreciate that some people can suddenly see the stupidity of calling homosexuality a choice when confronted with this question, but I think the comeback is far too obvious and may actually occur to some of them, given time. Conversely, I have yet to come up with a better way to… Read more »
Andy P., you think that’s a clever answer? If you can accept that many people find it natural to be heterosexual, why can’t you catch on that some people find it natural to be homosexual? The science of epigenetics explains why biology is the reason for anyone’s sexual orientation. God gives the gift of sexual orientation with a no-return policy. God so loves homosexuality it is found in every species studied, but homophobia is found in only one species. You wrote before the remaining two major ex-gay ministries admitted nobody has changed from homosexual to heterosexual. Exodus International and Love… Read more »
