Do you need to change the people you hang around? Do you need to finally get over the fear and start that business you have been dreaming about for years? Do you need to replace an old stagnant habit with a new and effective routine?
Whatever you need to do, you might as well start today. Don’t wait until tomorrow to do what you need to do today. If you keep waiting you will quickly find that tomorrow will never come. Stop procrastinating because you are waiting for things to magically fall into place. If you do, you will die with your vision still in you.
Life is about change. It is forever moving. If you don’t move with it then you will miss out. It is your choice whether you join in or stay stuck. I have discovered in my life and talking to others seven reasons that keep people stuck from living out their vision.
7 Reasons
1. You don’t take responsibility.
The extent to which you live out your vision depends on you taking responsibility for your life. Too many people have a habit of blaming others for their circumstances. Their parents did not support them, the company did not promote them fast enough, the job market did not provide the right opportunities and the list goes on and on.
You may have to admit that your situation is a direct result of the choices you made. If you want to live life at maximum capacity, you must take responsibility for where you are, stop blaming others, learn from your mistakes, make the necessary changes and live forward.
2. You give in to your fears.
If you are ready to live your vision then it is time to make your move. You can’t afford to let anything or no one stop you. One of the greatest enemies to living out your vision is fear.
Fear will tell you that you are not capable or worthy to live a productive life. Fear will make you feel uncomfortable and uneasy about living your vision.
Fear’s job is to discourage and dissuade you to walk away from doing what you are capable of doing. You must take an immediate stand. Tell fear to get out of your way because you have the vision to live out.
3. You ignore your purpose.
You were designed to fulfill your purpose. If you ignore your purpose, you ultimately disqualify who you are. You say to yourself and the world, “that living your purpose is not worth the effort”.
Your purpose is bigger than you. When you ignore your purpose, not only do you lose, but those connected to you lose. Whether you realize or not, when you choose to live your purpose, you come alive and impact those around you.
Your purpose anchors you and keeps you focused regardless of what is happening around you. It is better to live your purpose imperfectly than to ignore your purpose and not live it at all.
4. You let negativity dictate your thoughts.
We live in a very negative world. We are bombarded at every turn with some kind of negativity. Turn on the news and the first seven stories are about murders, robberies, diseases and disasters.
Listen to a majority of people conversations and it is about how bad things are. If you look at your situation, you can easily find something negative to talk about. Negativity is everywhere. It can be hard to escape.
Negativity is like weeds, if you don’t kill it from the roots, it will keep coming back. It wants to grasp your mind and rule your thoughts. It wants to block your focus so you can’t see today’s possibilities. Negativity will leave you frustrated and discouraged about life.
You must make it a priority to avoid negative people, places, things and habits. Don’t give in to consuming the garbage these negative sources try to pour into your life. Choose to feed your mind a more balance meal of positivity, optimism and hope.
5. You keep holding onto yesterday.
Ten years ago someone told you that you were not good enough and you let that keep you from going after your vision. Five years ago you made a terrible business decision and that decision costs you to miss other opportunities. Two years ago you had great success with an idea, but today you are still trying to do things the exact same way while expecting a different result.
Stop trying to hold onto what happened yesterday. Let it go. Today is a new day and you have to approach life differently. Yesterday’s successes and failures are where they are, in the past. Stop spending time holding on to something that is gone.
Use the memory of yesterday as a stepping stone to improve or for instruction on what not to do. You can’t start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading your last one.
6. You spend too much time with life draining people.
Life is too short to spend time with people who are constantly complaining and gripping about life. They will suck the joy out of living.
If you spend your time hanging with people that are constantly speaking negativity then you will eventually begin to speak negative. It’s time to break free from these vision cripplers. If you don’t they will keep you stuck in a life of mediocrity.
I want you to make a list of at least three people you can connect with who will encourage, listen and rebuke you. You need to trust these individuals to hold you accountable. Get around people who are not afraid to chase their visions. Please know that the people you allow in your life have a major influence on your life’s direction.
7. You keep waiting for permission.
If you are waiting for someone to give you permission to live out your vision, you will be waiting for a long time. Give yourself permission to pursue your vision.
Don’t disqualify or downplay your vision. You are not promised to live the next minute or the rest of today — let alone tomorrow — so you might as well pick yourself. You have the potential to be a trailblazer, a trendsetter and a real difference-maker. The only thing that is stopping you is you.
Creating a meaningful life and pursuing your vision takes time and effort. But you are worth the effort. Today and not tomorrow is the day to give yourself permission to move toward your unique vision. You miss 100% of the shots you never take. You miss living a great life waiting for the right people to choose you. You forfeit personal and family growth if you choose to wait for someone’s permission.
