A Father’s Prayer
I don’t know what a father is supposed to do: I don’t really know how a father is supposed to behave. Every day as a parent, is a process of trial and error. Fatherhood brings with it a certain degree of fear and uncertainty: Love; tolerance, hope, faith, trust, optimism and determination. We stumble a lot and we occasionally fall. We have cloudy days but so many more are filled with sunshine and countless blessings.
In those precious moments, we can only do our best and be the best we can. Each day offers us a range of new opportunities to get it right and make a real difference in the lives of our beautiful children: They are after all, our most precious gifts.
We might not be giants in our own right: However, in the hearts and minds of our children we’re the next best thing. We stand tall and proud as our hearts overflow with an unfathomable love, impossible to define.

In spite of what life brings to our door, we always know what it means to give love and to be loved. We might not be giants in our own right: However, in the hearts and minds of our children we’re the next best thing. We stand tall and proud as our hearts overflow with an unfathomable love, impossible to define.
We become the leaning post; the crying tree; the comfort pillow and the storybook. We’re the pillar which holds up our young people in times of struggle and uncertainty and the voice of reason, when all else fails. We join in the sweet laughter and wipe away the tears. We become the platform from which they launch their strong and capable futures and the heart which holds so many whispered secrets.
If you should ask me how it feels to be a parent, I find it difficult to speak the emotions. It defies description as each day is filled with profound joy. We cry a lot but we laugh a whole lot more. We worry and there is sadness, but there is so much more immense joy and happiness. Our lives are filled to overflowing with a profound love and pride.
No two days are ever the same and even though our children might be grown, every moment is still part of life’s learning curve.
I’m not sure what a father is supposed to do: I really don’t know how a father is supposed to behave. I only know that I do my best with the love I possess and the skills I have to set a good example. I can only trust that it’s enough.
To say I love my son with all my heart, is an understatement …..
