Many of us struggle with who we are and how we ‘show up’ in the world. Separate from personality or your particular style, here are four archetypes you may relate to. The defining factor in all of them, comes down to ‘seeking approval’.
Ultimately we all have traits of each and can be a combination, but will usually connect more strongly with one in particular. Which do you feel the most affinity with and how can these archetypes be useful to you?
Joker
You are the life of the party, always up for a laugh. You are looking for the approval of others because deep down you harbour insecurity that is disguised by your fun exterior. You have a great sense of humour and lots of energy, but you are still a boy, think like a boy and act like a boy.
The joker often feels stuck in a man’s body, not knowing how to ever be anything other than the joker. He may even be quite sad or lonely, but his mask covers this.
The joker is the man who does not know how to take life seriously when it matters.
Prince
You are charming, smooth and well respected. People know you and acknowledge your position in life. You have credibility and influence and were probably voted the most likely to succeed at school.
You enjoy success in life and with women, but deep down you still long for more, always seeking approval and the next opportunity.
You are full of potential, but still caught up in appearances. How you look is of great importance to you. One day you may be king but you aren’t quite there yet.
A prince is your classic nice guy, yet to fully embrace his strength and evolve into his next phase.
Knight
You are strong, capable, confident, willing to step up and take control. You love to be seen as the rescuer, the valiant saviour of any damsel in distress.
You are all about heart and image. You are proud of your abilities and people like you a lot. But you are somewhat aloof, keeping your distance, dabbling in intimacies but never fully committed, except to the cause. Underneath your exterior lives a fearful warrior.
A knight is the classic man who cannot or will not commit. He is your typical ‘bad guy’.
King
You are somewhat a combination of the first 3, but you are the best of each man.
You have a healthy sense of humour, you are clear and confident about your place in life. You have nothing to prove but are strong and self-directed.
You do not abdicate responsibility to others, but you also demand the best from others around you.
A true king is at ease in his own skin but can step up when required. Others can trust you, respect you and respond to you well.
Your queen feels safe with you and also vehemently protects you. Your masculine energy is strong but you are also not afraid to be vulnerable and gentle.
You don’t overestimate your weaknesses or underestimate your strengths. You are not threatened by others and you do whatever it takes. You love deeply. You are enough and you know it.
How you seek approval, will tell you which one of these archetypes you lean to the most. None of them are bad in their own right. But If you get stuck being the joker, prince, or knight, you will always be seeking for something deeper and stronger.
Become the king, rule your own life, and be the best version of you, you can possibly be.
