“A Day In A Life is my YouTube channel…the message behind my channel is to live your life [emphasis added],” said Hong Kong Shaun, young entrepreneur and Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner.
His channel supports and emphasizes passion for living. He insists the same drive that motivates martial artists is identical to any other sport, and his channel is about encouraging ambition. “My YouTube channel is unlike any other because of how I approach the game,” he explained. “My style of editing really showcases my character as a person.” Shaun coordinates his videos to music featured in the recording. “I decide what the music is going to be first then I create my videos off of that vibe. I try to switch up the music every time so that the audience is engaged.”
Video editing and directing became a passion for Shaun as he developed his channel, but there are more ideas circulating his mind. Shaun said he plans to brand A Day In A Life by launching merchandise (see hoody in the photo), which includes hooded sweatshirts, tees and gi patches for martial artists. “I’m still in the process of making all of my products…right now I’m investing in patches.” He said everything will be available soon.
“The world needs Hong Kong Shaun because I am from Hong Kong,” he jokingly insisted. “Not many people from Hong Kong do jiu-jitsu and I want the world to know my story.” Shaun was born in Tokyo, Japan and moved to Hong Kong, China as a baby, where he lived for 18 years. In 2012, he relocated to the United States to attend college and pursue other opportunities. “I want my brand to be known worldwide.”
Training is Shaun’s inspiration for A Day In A Life. “Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a lifestyle that betters me as a person each day.” He is a purple belt, which is the third of five belts in the art (excluding red belt, which is reserved for the most elite practitioners). He has had varying degrees of success as a competitor. He won gold in his division at the 2014 Pan Ams competition in California.
