Rumi
Rumi was a 13th-century Persian poet, an Islamic scholar, jurist, theologian, and a Sufi mystic. His work generated an immense following for its ability to break barriers, as it transcended location, ethnicities, time, language and spirituality.
Shahram Shiva, an award-winning translator and scholar of Rumi, put it best when he said, “The world of Rumi is neither exclusivity the world of a Sufi, nor the world of a Hindu, nor a Jew, nor a Christian, it is a state of an evolved human, a human who is not bound by cultural limitations; one who touches everyone of us. Today Rumi’s poems can be heard in churches, synagogues, Zen monasteries, as well as in the downtown New York art/performance/music scene.”

How we speak to each other and how we speak at each other, the words and thoughts we emit from our mouths have a powerful energetic effect on our living environment. Here are some words of Rumi, along with an intro by myself and a repeating refrain of …”the language of love is one of touch, a language of healing.” I gathered together, my words and the wisdom of Rumi to tell a story, a song of evolutionary love. The story is intimate and practical in its formulation. The story is scientific in its lyrical unfolding. It is a combination of mind and heart, an attempt of create a field of peace. This gathering of Rumi’s words and thoughts were put together for a performance of a dancer, five readers, and musical accompaniment. It was performed at Neighborhood Congregational Church in beautiful Laguna Beach. A performance that only took 5-6 minutes of healing ideas, words, movement and sounds, entitled Language of Love. The performance left the crowd in a hush, a field of peace and wonder.
