I dare you to tell me I can’t do something.
I love — seriously LOVE — when the odds are stacked against me.
I don’t know where I got the personality trait, because my upbringing certainly wouldn’t have been an one that made me so perseverant.
My father was coddled by his mom and his stepfather.
When he needed money and was short, they would give him money.
He worked the bare minimum. He was a stockbroker in New York, he would get there right at 9:00, leave right at 5:00, take the same train home every single day.
Take the same train in Grand Central, every single morning. Play golf at the same time every single Saturday and Sunday during the spring, summer and fall and basically lived a very coddled life.
There was no fight, no tenacity in him at all. He just lived and died young and I feel like he never really, truly lived.
You could see it from his upbringing, from his mom that coddled him and babied him, he was a momma’s boy.
My mother… well, my mother was complicated to say the least. She taught me a lot of things about fighting, in the sense that you need to fight and never give up. But not in a positive way, because as a role model she was always giving up and wanting to leave the earth.
For those of you who are long-term readers, you know my mom tried to commit suicide when I was five years old and I was in the car with her, that she decided to ram 65 miles an hour into a parked car.
She tried several other times in subliminal, small ways. I was always hearing my mom quitting, not wanting to live, talking about not wanting to live, talking about life wasn’t fair. So I wasn’t getting that programming from my mother. I was getting like what I call programming. One, seeing my mom not really want to be here but yet my mom telling me that all my dreams are possible. So it was very, very conflicting, especially at a very young age.
Why am I telling you, why am I sharing all this with you?
There are a few reasons.
The main reason is to tell you it doesn’t really matter what your fate was, because you can change it. You can change your fate to whatever you want your fate to be. That’s really what I’m trying to get through to you right now.
You see, your fate can be whatever it is. Some people will say that I knew on an energetic level my mom was trying to end her life and I was going to be an unfortunate bystander in that car wreck and end my life too, so maybe since that day, I’ve been a survivor and I always feel like I’m basically living on borrowed time.
I don’t know. I don’t really sit there and try to analyze it, but if you think about it, I’m playing with house money at this point because that accident was pretty damn bad and I was lucky to walk out of it and so was my mom.
So maybe I’m energetically at that point, where I have this fearless nature about me. I don’t know what it is. But all I know is that no matter what I do, I believe that I can accomplish anything I want.
I believe in endless possibilities. I don’t believe in limitation, and I also believe in living life to the fullest every single day. When I’m learning something new (and this is for all of you that have the “I quit” mentality and “it doesn’t work” mentality), I know that it’s going to take major repetition to get those lessons in my head.
Sure, it’s frustrating as can be when something doesn’t come quick enough to you. As a human being, that’s what we want. We always want something to come really quickly to us.
It’s frustrating if we don’t make money overnight in this new business venture.
It’s frustrating if we don’t lose weight right away when we’re dieting.
It’s frustrating and we all want that quick fix, that high.
But we hall have to move past that. The more I do, the more I listen, the more I listen, the more I do.
The more whatever the habit is, it’s going to be ingrained in me and I know I don’t need to get it right away because that’s unrealistic expectation.
And unrealistic expectations are the cause of people stopping and starting their entire life.
Think about this, and have a great day.
