There it was.
A person in the sky paragliding through the air so peacefully and effortlessly.
I was watching from a distance. “I’m gonna do that” I said.
“You’re blood pressure is gonna go up, it’s bad for you,” my dad said as he stood right next to me looking at the person paragliding in awe.
High blood pressure would have been a legitimate reason not to get on that parachute….had it been true about me. I had no high blood pressure whatsoever, but my dad did.
This is something very interesting about human nature and it is something I’ve observed over and over again: people will only tell what you can and can’t do from their frame of reality. In the case of my dad, he didn’t see the obstacle from my perspective and capabilities, but rather from his.
I’m sure you have a dream now or just something you really want and you kind of believe you can do it but you’re not too sure because the people around you say you can’t. You can do it. There is no one external to you who can definitively tell you what you can and can’t do. I think a huge part of the reason why is because sometimes we don’t even know what we’re capable of achieving so how could others possibly know.
Something I’ve also noticed is the abundance of information out there constantly being pushed in our faces especially when information is literally at the tip of your fingers.
How do you know who to trust?
The answer is you don’t!
Whatever problem you may be facing, everyone will have an answer for you but the thing is, is that no answer applies to everyone. You have to test it and test it continuously and only then can you say that the method you’ve been told to follow is of no use to you.
Keyword: you
People are going to try to sell you their idea, product, or service and it’s ultimately up to you to make an informed decision as to what will be the best advice of help for you and your specific situation. DO NOT let anyone by any means own your mind and your thoughts about something because the consequences will not be in your favor.
I have found that the best way to get solid advice is to ask someone who has gone through a similar peril that you are currently facing but find someone who resonates with you and is as similar to you as possible. This way, their advice would best serve you.
At the end of the day, you can completely ignore everything and do whatever it is you want.
The choice is yours and yours solely.
