Understanding CBD
There is no denying the fact that CBD is fast becoming one of those compounds you simply have to know something about. As its demand grows in the market, so does its popularity. But what exactly is so special about this compound and why is it on pretty much everybody’s lips?
In the upcoming sections, we take a quick look below at some of the most important things to note about CBD – what it is, what differentiates it from others, its types, and many more.
What is CBD?
CBD is short for cannabinol, which itself is a compound obtained from the cannabis sativa plant. Thanks to this fact (that it is extracted from cannabis) a majority of people used to think that CBD was psychoactive; i.e that it gets you high.
It was only after years of in-depth research that it was found that CBD does not, in fact, get you high. The only compound that does so in the cannabis plant is a compound known as THC.
CBD Vs THC
A lot of people tend to confuse these two compounds, and this is understandable considering how closely related they are. They are both obtained from the cannabis plant, but that’s about it.
THC is known for its psychoactive properties while CBD is not, meaning that all the euphoric feeling that came from consuming cannabis all came from the THC and not CBD. Once this fact was established, people started to look more kindly on the latter. And with the passing of a few significant legislations in the US, the compound became noteworthy for its incredible therapeutic effects.
CBD Spectrums
No study of CBD is complete without discussing the types of CBD spectrums. These are generally divided into three categories – full spectrum CBD, broad-spectrum CBD and CBD isolate. We take a closer look at all of these three below.
Full Spectrum CBD
Sometimes CBD products tend to include other compounds, including those found in the cannabis plant themselves. These compounds are generally known as cannabinoids.
Full-spectrum CBD contains CBD, a trace amount of THC, along with other cannabinoids.
Full-spectrum CBD such as those found on the TREET store can be perfect for severe conditions and for those who live in cannabis-friendly states.
Broad Spectrum CBD
Broad-spectrum CBD contains CBD and other cannabinoids, but no THC. This absence of THC is the most important difference between the full-spectrum CBD and broad-spectrum types. Broad-spectrum CBD is great for those with zero THC tolerance.
CBD Isolate
Lastly, a CBD Isolate contains CBD only. There is no THC and there are no other cannabinoids present. CBD Isolate is great for those who are sensitive to THC or other cannabinoids and for those who are about to take drug screening tests.
In Conclusion
In conclusion, CBD is a powerful compound known to possess a significant amount of healing properties. CBD should never be confused with THC, seeing as the latter is a psychoactive compound that induces “highness”, while the former does not.
Lastly, CBD is generally grouped into three categories based on spectrum types. These are full-spectrum CBD, broad-spectrum CBD, and pure CBD Isolate.
