Al and Tipper Gore to divorce. Let the “Inconvenient Marriage” jokes begin.
Al and Tipper Gore are calling it quits after forty years. That might come as a surprise to those of us who witnessed their impassioned snog during the 2000 Democractic National Convention, but is divorce ever really shocking anymore?
The Los Angeles Times reports that the high-school sweethearts announced their separation in an e-mail on Tuesday. “This is very much a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration,” the e-mail said.
The news has been hot on Twitter today, where user @JamesPMorrison had this to offer: “My prediction is that Al Gore will soon claim to have invented the amicable divorce.”
The Gores’ separation comes after their oldest daughter, Kristin, filed for divorce from her husband in 2009.
