We know Oprah’s on the scene, but we just wanted to reiterate that Zach Anner needs to be on TV. Officially. Stat.
The 25-year-old is a contestant on Oprah’s Your OWN Show: Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star. He also has cerebral palsy. The Internet fell in love with him, garnering him millions of votes in a matter of hours. There’s been some controversy over whether or not the contest has been rigged against him. Regardless, the eloquence and presence of this guy is categorical. (Being lovable and hilarious helps too.)
Can you imagine maintaining yourself in front of Oprah well enough to say this:
I really thought it could help a lot of people. I thought this is a way to give a voice to a population that really hasn’t had one. … [The biggest misconception about people with disabilities is] that they are helpless and that their personalities are defined by their disabilities. Because I am so many things before I am a person in a wheelchair. Get to know the person, the chair is incidental.
