Justin Timberlake shaving with a chainsaw. Bradley Cooper eating cereal without a bowl. Sean Penn ironing a grilled cheese. Jamie Foxx opening a beer with a remote. Ashton Kutcher throwing away socks. The Old Spice guy walking around a parking lot blindfolded.
What do all these things make you think of?
Yes! The outrage that is underage sex trafficking!
Everyone’s favorite age-is-just-a-number couple, Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore, have launched a campaign against the very real problem of underage sex trafficking. The Demi and Ashton Foundation has released a number of celebrity-filled PSAs, which, as Kutcher said, go for “that offbeat feel of Funny or Die.”
Shockingly, that might not’ve been the best way to go.
The intentions are good, sure. It’s great that they’re recognizing the problem, but the ads make it seem like Demi and Ashton made them just to show everyone that they were still cool and hip—not just some old married couple. These tell me absolutely nothing about child slavery. Hell, I wouldn’t even know what the ads were about if I didn’t read some context before watching them. If anything, they’re sort of making light of the problem.
