I have the pleasure of featuring Lucky Bloke as our Good Work company this week.
Lucky Bloke’s safe sex initiative is undoubtedly the definition of “good work”, and after speaking to Melissa White, Founder and CEO of Lucky Bloke, I am thrilled I have the opportunity to highlight their efforts!
Nicole Johnson: Why did you start this global safe sex initiative?
Melissa White: Research shows that when people don’t like condoms, they don’t use them – at least not every time they should – regardless of the risk. However, these days, if you don’t absolutely love your condom, you are simply wearing the wrong one. Let me explain why. For far too long, the common perceptions surrounding condoms have suffered from gross oversimplification:
• First, that all condoms are one-size-fits-all.
• Second, that all condoms are created equal.
It is time to bust these widespread condom myths once and for all. It’s rarely taught that quality and fit are as essential to condoms as they are to any other form of apparel. Thus, it comes as no surprise that many people (especially men), through repeated, uncomfortable experiences, have come to view condoms as, at best, a necessary evil. This in turn leads many people toward choosing the cheapest condoms available. Why not just pick up a free handful at the local club or bar –they’re all the same, right?! Wrong.
When you are using a correctly-sized premium condom, your pleasure (as well as your safety) is exponentially increased. Once you recognize this, you’ll never have to sacrifice pleasure or safety again. If we could prove that the safe sex experience could be dramatically improved, wouldn’t all condom users deserve to know? We thought so, too. We are taking our expertise and knowledge and proving it, especially to the non-believers. That is where Mission: Great Sex! comes in. People are jaded and tune out conversations about safe sex. And who doesn’t prefer action over words? Recently, Lucky Bloke completed our initiative’s pilot program. While it was touted a global condom review – and it was – the result was tangible education about proper condom fit (and how it heightens pleasure and safety) via first-hand experience.
We had over 800 reviewers in 21 countries:
• 54% male – 46% female.
• 86% of participants stated that Mission: Great Sex! improved and spiced up their sex life.
• 96% stated that Mission: Great Sex! improved their opinion of and relationship to condoms.
Yes, when all was said and done, 96% of participants stated that Mission: Great Sex! improved their opinion of (and relationship) to condoms. 96%!
Shifting condom perceptions through personal experience is incredibly powerful. Once we received these very compelling results, we decided it was high time to find a way to bring great safer sex to the masses. Our much larger, Mission: Great Sex! campaign was born.
Nicole Johnson: Lucky Bloke is committed to preventing the spread of HIV / AIDS and STDs. As your company grows, how will Lucky Bloke’s philanthropic efforts grow?
Melissa White: Condoms save lives. We take our business that seriously. We aren’t selling ballpoint pens or t-shirts. We are selling the equivalent of modern day armor.
We plan to continue expanding the education piece of our work in innovative and compelling ways. Mission: Great Sex! is just the beginning. Here at Lucky Bloke, commitment to supporting critical humanitarian causes is a cornerstone of our business. On our retail site, we have established that we donate 10% of our sales to the cause our customer’s select.
I can’t say enough about Lucky Bloke. I was one of the first reviewers when the condom review started and the experience totally improved my experience with condoms. Lucky Bloke doesn’t just tell people sex with condoms can be better, they prove it by sending out free products based on surveys you submit, so that you can explore fit and find the condom that is best for you. If you use condoms and want great sex, check it out.
