On April 7, 1933, Franklin Roosevelt signed the law ending Prohibition. In 2019, alcohol distributors will celebrate April 7 as National Beer Day. April is National Poetry Month. In this poem, the author gets more intoxicated on love than he does on alcohol. Celebrate Beer Day. Celebrate Poetry Month. But celebrate responsibly.
Drunk Love –
Just a sip of that stuff and I’m flying
Don’t take much to get out of my mind
I get so drunk, can’t walk a straight line
It’s sweeter than nectar from the vine
Couldn’t get any higher from a quart of wine
It doesn’t matter to me who is buying
I can get a contact buzz from it, I’m not lying
My judgement goes askew, even as I find
my tongue feels like someone is tying
it up and causing my teeth to grind
My perception is off but I’m feeling fine
A lady walks in and I start eyeing.
A new girl always makes me start sighing
I start pleading and plying
asking her if she wants to go out and dine
maybe drink a little Love Potion Number 9
I will continue to disregard the sign
and will indulge until I’m in a bind.
Out of the pot and into the pan for frying
All I can do is beg and whine, and pine
If that doesn’t work, I may begin crying
I get intoxicated without even trying
I’ll get drunk on love until the day I’m dying
