Demonizing women should be stopped immediately as should with any gender, individual, or group of people. Women often times get the brunt of a lot of negativity and it seems to be that way universally. Now I know that some will argue that it happens to men more often, etc. but I’m not denying that it doesn’t. For this article, we are focusing on women and how you can become a better man or, at least, more informed.
Women Are Perceived Differently
There is no denying that women are viewed differently in many societies than men are because of old traditions and an abundance of other things. In a place like some Arab countries, the culture is dominated by men and women have less or almost zero say in anything. In Western countries, the perception of women is a little laid back where freedom to be more expressive is more allowed. The reality is that women are viewed by some in the West as having only a few purposes ultimately satisfying egos.
The perceptions are still different in both examples because often times men have a “stay in the kitchen” mentality about women. It’s almost as if women threaten the “hierarchy” and if they ever “took over” will send men packing in shackles straight to the nearest prison.
As men, we have a physical advantage over most women along with our big egos. Now, this sounds like “male bashing” to some but I’m trying to be as honest as I can and of course, I’m not generalizing either.
Acknowledging Their Pain As A Man
It’s very easy for me to recognize the pain of anyone regardless of their gender, race, financial status or any situation. I believe that I am this way because of some the experiences that I’ve had personally and have seen countless times over the years. One of my biggest pet peeves is for anyone to see something that they know is wrong but then pretend as if they don’t see it.
How can I see anyone that is hurting from wrongdoing and then sit back with a lackadaisical attitude about it? I see this happening with women and others in society way too often. As a man who recognizes pain from others (and in particular, women), it is incumbent for me to show empathy and help in any way I see fit.
Stand Up For Yourself By Standing Up For Women
Sometimes barriers stop us from doing what is right especially if we stand up for women. Now I’m not necessarily talking about your wife, mother, girlfriend, sister or anyone that you’re in a close relationship with. It’s almost expected that one will do the natural thing and protect them at all cost. What about the elderly lady in a public place where the rowdy teenager(s) are swearing like there is no tomorrow? Or even the guy that is verbally or physically assaulting his girlfriend because he’s insecure, etc.?
Be An Example for Younger Males
Everyone always speaks of the youth and how they are our future. They even say how the current generation is so stupid and disrespectful too. My point is that we are always concerned about young people in some capacity regardless of the praise or criticism they receive. At what point do we focus on being real examples to our young males and make it a continuous process?
As a father of two young boys, I have always been well aware of how they perceive my interaction with people but especially women. I naturally treat everyone the same but I’m more aware of how they see me interacting with women because I want to show them how important it is.
Change Is Ok For Everyone
Changing the way that women are viewed is so important because they are only human just like men. It’s ok and never too late to change how you view them or even how they may view you. Sometimes they are powerless and let things go on that they shouldn’t but most of the time it is out of their control too. People fear change because recognizing there is a problem with the demonization of women or anything else is scary. It’s never too late to get better at anything and recognize wrong regardless of how much it may hurt.
