The gaming culture is catching on greatly and each year we see new trends in the market. The gaming industry is also expanding vastly due to the greater demands of gamers. The competition is serious and the eminent players of the industry lead the way by introducing new developments that engage the masses of gamers. The gaming industry has evolved significantly over the past couple of years, and with the high-wave of mobile gaming, we have seen a sizable amount of increase in the gaming communities.
The growing competition in the industry has awarded us with some very advanced technologies and innovations. Developers are working hard to make their imaginations real and instill the gamers with their products. We have seen a constant trend of ‘out with the old, in with the new’ in the console market, which seems to grow every year as no one wants to feel left out.
Let’s take a look at the gaming trends that have taken over this year.
Cross-platform:
Cross-platform gaming has been in float for some time now, but it seems that the gaming industry is going to exploit this trend to the fullest in 2018. There was a time when the wars were only between console users and PC users but the advancement of technology and the demand for mobility has given rise to another race; the Mobile Gamers. The games available include fan favorite and most trending games like Fortnite, PUBG, and Elder Scrolls Blades. Smartphones are getting smarter each day and can now support high-def games that are available on other platforms. Other than that, not everyone is devoted enough to pay a hefty price for a gaming setup. Oh, this reminds us that we’ve found a site called Dimble that has a list of the best gaming chairs available in the market, make sure to check it out.
Augmented Reality:
For the past couple of years, Virtual Reality (VR) has been claimed to be the next market trend. It may seem promising and all but the truth is we don’t see it as the big thing that’ll change the market. Augmented Reality (AR) on the other hand, has proven to be more favorable than VR. The reason behind this is the ease of adoption; VR headsets are expensive and if they’re not then they’re not good at all. While Augmented Reality requires a more expensive device to function (i.e. a smartphone), most of us already have it and carry it all day long so there’s really not much to adopt. Pokémon Go is credited to be the biggest AR hit yet. Other trending games include The Machines, ARZombie, AR Dragon and ARise, etc.
Battle Royale:
This is the hottest trend this year which started after the release of Epic Games’ Fortnite: Battle Royale, which has accumulated a number of more than 125 million players. This is the most trending discussion on every game forum. The E3 2018 was dominated by the talks of Battle Royale games and big guns like Activision and EA stated that they would include a battle royale mode in their upcoming games, namely Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and Battlefield V.
Diversity:
The best trend we’ve seen so far is the acceptance and inclusion of diversity by the video game developers. The industry has grown a lot, from Xbox’s adaptive controller for players with reduced mobility to the inclusion of LGBT characters in games like Overwatch and The Last of Us. We’ve also seen a rise of a number of women in the hero’s seat this year with games like Control, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, The Last of Us part 2, and Gears of War 5.
