100 Words on Love, by John Dwyer
–
I wrote about being caught in a thunderstorm for a college application and I loved my English teacher
for telling me to avoid the juxtaposition of “climax” and “in my long hair.”
I loved a girl who changed her address as often as her hair and a girl whose heart stayed
in St. Louis and when I couldn’t steal their hearts, I stole those other things.
The woman I love likes to ruffle my hair, tells me that juxtaposition sounds pompous and
crosses out the name of every ex. I think that she’s connecting the dots for me.
