Summer is in full effect, so you better get out and enjoy it before those 90-some-odd days are gone!
Good weather and long days mean it’s time to get outside, but you can do a lot better with your summer days than just hanging out by the pool. Instead, try a few of the things we’ve put on this list to get you out of your comfort zone. It’s the best way to make meaningful memories!
Wakeboarding
Your folks probably grew up water skiing on dual skis. Today, a quality ski boat with a tower and maybe a rockin’ stereo is an excellent place to waste a summer day. If you’re a fan of snowboarding or skateboarding, wakeboarding will come easily and you can take comfort knowing that if you eat it, you won’t be walking away with scars, though maybe a few bruises.
Cooking Over an Open Flame
Nothing really comes close to the way a good steak grilled over a campfire tastes. It’s one of life’s simple pleasures, but you don’t have to stop at steak, there are thousands of original recipes you can make using a few basic cooking utensils and maybe a grill plate placed over your campfire. Master this craft and you’ll be at the top of everyone’s list of camping companions.
Full-Suspension Mountain Biking
Speaking of scars, downhill mountain biking is one of the up-and-coming new extreme sports out there and can get pretty extreme in its upper echelons. You can try this fun sport out without doing bodily harm though because most bike shops will rent you a quality rig for a reasonable price, and ski resorts are now open for riders to get their shred on during the summer. Send it!
Ocean Fishing
Hobbies that result in you bringing home delicious food are the best kind. When the bite is on, a chartered ocean fishing expedition can net you hundreds of pounds of Tuna, Mahi-Mahi, Swordfish, and other delicious, exotic fish. All while delivering a one-of-a-kind experience for you and your companions as you set sail and enjoy a beautiful summer day on the ocean!
Off-Roading
Nothing satisfies the need for extreme enjoyment quite like putting some tires in the dirt and tackling a difficult trail in your own four-wheel-drive vehicle. Get your car in the proper shape, then bring friends along to join in the fun. In fact, it’s always a good safety practice to have another rig go with you, so grab a buddy who likes to get radical and go hit the dirt on a beginner-level off-road trail, you might be hooked for life!
Whitewater Rafting
Fun in the sun that keeps you cool while you do it! Rafting expeditions are available all across the western United States, with many opportunities to see spectacular landmarks and valleys from a perspective you can’t get any other way! Take a guided expedition to get your bearings, or get a permit if you’re a seasoned rafter and head to the river for what could be a peaceful float or an action-packed adventure!
Get “Off the Grid”
Maybe it’s a camping trip to a secluded area, or perhaps you’d like to book a flight to a simpler place like Africa or St. Kitts. Arriving someplace where you can truly decompress, enjoy the warm summer weather and put aside the daily stressors of life is something we all should do. Just make sure it’s summer there, too. Africa might be cooler than you expect in mid-august.
Any one of these things would be a great way to put the icing on top of a wonderful summer. Have you got a suggestion that you don’t see on the list? What’s your best summertime adventure story that we haven’t touched on? Tell us about it in the comment section below!
