A call for submissions about the ways that the economy is affecting you personally.
The economy has been dismal for so long now that it’s barely news any more. And with this call for submissions – we don’t want news. We want personal stories of how the economic forces in today’s world are affecting you as men, personally. Whether you are just getting out of college and looking into the future uncertainly, approaching an age when you thought you’d retire, or looking at how to support a family, we’d like to hear from you.
In particular, how does this affect your view of yourself as a man? Do you feel more pressure than ever to be “the provider”? To be successful? Or is some of the pressure off because so many other men are likewise affected? Have you tried innovative ways of working you can share? Relocated, become more entrepreneurial, changed careers? Have you decided to be a stay-at-home dad and are thrilled with the results? Is today’s economy the “new normal”? Or do you still have a longing for a time when success seemed more easily in your grasp.

It’s not just people who got laid off or had to take a lower paying job that are being affected. 3 years ago my department had 22 people in it. Now it has 13. The company has gone through several rounds of lay offs and the people who are left have to do more work and there is always concern that your name will be called if there’s another round.
