You will–as a result of this–earn fame and fortune, but it comes with a catch. You will never be the best. Every time you make it to the championship you will lose. People will still regard you as a great competitor and think of you as a legend in the field–but you will always take second place. You will never win when it counts.

You realize this scenario you’re describing is ‘Rocky I’ right? I mean, if there was no Rocky II, III, et al. Before Rocky was ‘Rocky’ there was ‘Rocky I’ and in that movie the core of it was the he WAS destined to be no better than second best.
